Wow, these look neat.

And until I see some price tags that's about as excited for things as I'm going to get.

I want the VR controllers to be functional as a real controller, I think thats the case but am confused by the wording.

Steam controller and a new Steam VR set. I may be spending a lot of money in the near future

[–] voytrekk@sopuli.xyz 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This announcement is detrimental to my financial health.

Yeah. One new toy I could probably justify but two or three? Ok I can probably think of a way to justify.

How much are kidneys going for these days

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago

Alright, the VR set I've been waiting for!

What I love about Valve is you can tell they are clearly taking stuff they learned from their earlier products (Deck, Index, Controller, Machine) to combine it and make it better.

Yess, the steam controller!

If they sell it as a standalone I might pick one up :3

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I imagine they'll sell them as a bundle and separately.

I like this one better than the last, but it still looks too bulky to be comfortable.

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 7 points 2 days ago

I'd have to see it in someone's hands tbh :3

It doesn't look too bad tho imo

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It looks like they basically just slapped the Deck controls into a smaller form factor.

That can't not work.

Plus the four rear buttons are capacitive (like the joysticks), so they can be used to toggle gyro controls.

EDIT: Actually, is it the grips themselves that are capacitive, not the buttons? I am confused about how this will work.

but it still looks too bulky to be comfortable.

That’s what people said about the original Xbox controller, but that thing was very comfortable.

Also, the Steam Deck itself looks huge and bulky at first glance, but it feels wonderful to hold and use.

FUCK YESSS

I'll get 4 controllers and a Steam Machine for my kids.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Will they run Doom?

The most exciting thing here, for me, is Steam OS on ARM (Frame) with x86->ARM translation for old/light games

[–] PlanterTree@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Can one run skyrim on ARM emulation on the Frame, or is that too heavy?

[–] Die4Ever@retrolemmy.com 1 points 1 day ago

I think it would work yea

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wonder if their Fex software will be extensible to other devices and open sourced.

[–] zarkony@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

https://fex-emu.com/

They are referring to FEX-Emu, which is already open source (MIT).

I think the idea is that they will adopt it and contribute some development, similar to what they did with proton.

Steam machine

Should have called it The Turbine

[–] Datz@szmer.info 1 points 1 day ago

I was just thinking of a hardware upgrade since Steam Deck struggles with Expedition 33. I don't have much space (or experience) for desktops and gaming laptops are scams. I do have a TV though and would also gladly stream to Steam Deck, so I think this is just perfect.

I am excited to buy but nervous about that unannounced pricing. Specifically for the Frame. I want to grab that so that it takes the place of the Quest 2 that I have and hate since it's a Meta product, but if it's 1k then I'm much less likely to grab it.

[–] korendian@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] SatyrSack@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Or release date? Or even when preorders go live?

[–] Carnelian@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nothing yet beyond just 2026

[–] SatyrSack@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The voiceover in the announcement video does state the three new devices are shipping in early 2026

[–] GalaxyGamer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago
