Socrates was strongly associated with a bloodthirsty coup against democracy called The Tyranny of the Three Hundred, imposed by Sparta after defeating Athens. This murderous regime was lead by a bunch of Socrates' disciplines until Athenians rose up in revolt and overthrew their oppressors. That's when Socrates was arrested and put to death.

I think socrates was something like leo strauss - just a grifter who knew what rich people want to hear, whose disciplines believed themselves to be so wise as rulers that it justifies working with their state's enemies, destroying democracy and killing anyone in their way.
