Every penny taken from Americans

Though his bribe is technically a redistribution of wealth, which I'm for generally--just not as a one-off pawn to try and boost his approval ratings.

Would be really funny if it was possible to trick trump into socialism just to try and be more popular and avoid the epstein stuff

[–] atomicorange@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

And only a small percentage being given back (if these checks ever actually appear).

2k can't replace the pay for federal workers who have been furloughed, or the upcoming ACA increases, and for some that's just a couple months of food for their families

He just likes sending checks with his name on it. I genuinely don't want a dividend from this tariff fraud

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

It’ll also never happen

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

$2k isn't even enough to cover most people's expenses for one month. Meanwhile he pockets billions.

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

Takes trillions of dollars out of the American people's pockets. Gives some of it back to make himself look generous.

That's just a tax return.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This will go about as well as the $5000 DOGE checks.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

What 5k dodge checks? Never got one of those.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

He has no clue how much a trillion is

[–] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago

I'll take "things that will never happen" for 500, Alex!

Trump isn't smart enough to do this but...

Step 1. Create tariffs that increase prices for Americans.

Step 2. Promise to give money to all Americans based on how much money the government is making off tariffs.

Step 3. To receive your dividend sign up on the website giving name, address, bank account info, and an optional "proof of citizenship".

Step 4. Only pay people who proved citizenship as the money was promised to "Americans"

Step 5. Deport everyone who gave their address but didn't prove they are citizens.

Save money and get the personal details of "non-Americans". So easy, so evil the only question is if anyone in trump's circle smart enough to think of it.

Missing in step 4: Also scan their photos on the ID to check their appearance and skin color. Review every ID with AI to check for "non-Americans" to mark them for deportation.

[–] vrek@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

That was the "optional" citizenship proof.

In FY 2024, the IRS collected revenue of $5.1 trillion on an appropriated budget of $12.3 billion. That translates to a remarkable return on investment of 415:1.

https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/reports/2024-annual-report-to-congress/newsroom/

The available data show that U.S. tariff receipts surged sharply in fiscal 2025, with official and independent tallies converging around $195 billion for the year, up from roughly $77 billion in fiscal 2024;

He could pay off our national debt in one year, send Musk to Mars, and create a solid gold highway from DC to Mar-a-lago. GO TARIFFS! /S

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 6 points 1 day ago

So… he’s giving people some of their own money back. What a hero. I’ll believe it once the check has cashed.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is like the $1500 checks during the start of COVID and everyone forgot about it after a few weeks. Trump will need to institute UBI to actually make people stop being mad.

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

People did not forget, it was actually a talking point for some people last presidential election. Some people wanted another check and were willing to put the whole country at risk for it.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

On one hand, a million Americans dead from COVID being gaslighted the whole time by Trump. On the other hand, I could get another check for $2k. Yeah, that sounds like a good trade!

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I heard no mention of that at all, just the checks. Yeah..

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh sorry, I was just clowning on what happened when we got the checks last time.

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 2 points 1 day ago

Ohhhh, yeah I mean that's basically how it went. The mishandling of that pandemic has been downplayed such an incredible amount it's surreal.

[–] Taco2112@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Use that money to fund SNAP you melting orange doughboy!

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago

If such a thing ever happens, I’ll buy more ammo with it.
