Welcome to c/WouldYouRather, where we present you with the toughest, most ridiculous choices you never knew you had to make! Would you rather have a third arm that's only useful for picking your nose, or be able to talk to animals but only if they're wearing hats? Yeah, it's that kind of vibe. Come for the absurdity, stay because you've clearly got nothing better to do with your life.

$1/minute sleeping and $0.06/step taken.

This gives you 8x60x$1 = $480/night or 10000x$0.06= $600 a day for the recommended 10k steps a day.

Absolutely steps.

$600 x 365 is $219k a year. I'd quit my job and become a full-time walker/hiker.

Sleep. I need to sleep anyway, I do not have to walk 10k steps. So basically safe money vs. maybe money .

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

And nobody said only 8h. One could sleep 10h and earn same as 10k steps a day. Take couple of naps during a day and add to income.

Walking. I would immediately make plans to walk the Appalachian trail and the PCT. You would get paid around ~300,000 dollars to walk the Appalachian trail and ~480,000 dollars to walk the PCT. 2 hours a day on a treadmill at 3mph would garner you ~800 dollars a day. Fit and rich sounds like a great plan.

I’d choose to walk. I can make even more running so there is room for growth. While I can only sleep a max of (if you sleep the whole day) $1440 a day.

Playing a sport for fun will earn you a lot of money all while simply exercising.

[–] SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But an injury or smth. Plus you can't necessarily walk your entire life, or at the same rate anyways. Have to with sleep

You could also become an Insomniac. Idk, I think old people are told to keep moving for as long as possible. I’d hope one would have saved for rainy day funds and retirement.

I think this is a question that similar to capitalism or socialism. Work an avg amount or work for what you get.

Sleep. $500 a day is quite a pretty penny

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I don’t take a lot of steps. Even when I’m walking for a day, people with me get literally thousands more steps recorded. So absolutely sleep. I need about 510 min sleep a night. It would pay more than my current job, that’s for sure!

I also prefer to do things other than walking/running for exercise, and I don’t have the recovery capacity or energy to do heavy squats, high intensity cardio, and also get in 8500 steps a day. When I go to the office, I’m lucky to break 3000 steps!

[–] Beastly.gr@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

Steps for sure. Just walked 20k steps at work, that’s $1200 vs the 6 hrs I slept which would only be $360.

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 5 points 2 weeks ago

Sleep! Because I have a disability that limits my ability to walk. And that disability makes me so damn tired that I sleep a lot

[–] Marty_TF@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

steps, even at like 1ct/step. i work construction and gardening. that's 15k steps daily on slow days

[–] hotdogcharmer@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

Steps. I walk fuckin everywhere. Walked 30K steps last Saturday, 10K steps a day most days. I'd have earned minimum $600 a day just for my daily commute for the last six months.

I haven't slept eight hours in god knows how many years.

[–] apotheotic@beehaw.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

Steps. Give me an extra incentive to practice healthy habits.

[–] msokiovt@lemmy.today 3 points 2 weeks ago

Honestly, steps for me. It's very easy to do, but it can be such a slog.

[–] MumboJumbo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Over the past year, I averaged 10,896 steps a day. To get paid the same in sleep, I would have to sleep 10.896 hours a day. There's no way that I could enjoy life and sleep for almost half of it. Steps is the easy choice.

[–] toomanypancakes@piefed.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sleep for me, I struggle to get in 1000 steps a day.

Now thats my guy.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Thats more than 100k to sleep. Yeah steps make more but sleep is a definate and you could do whatever you want. I mean the steps could be done under 2 hours and most days you would likely get them in doing whatever but with sleeping when you are sick your pay would go up. Yeah I take sleep.

9hrs of sleep nets me 540 => 197,100/yr without taking any of my free time to exist which leaves more time awake to be making money

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

I used to get paid £0.06 per tree planted.

I'd definitely take the steps payment as I still have an active job.

Last job I was walking 20k+ steps a day

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 3 points 2 weeks ago

Steps - sleep can be hit-or-miss for me but steps are something I can actively increase, plus it's healthy.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 3 points 2 weeks ago

After a lot of back-and-forth with myself: sleeping. There have been times I've been injured or sick or overworked and didn't do much walking, but I need to sleep every day. Plus it'll be nice to have some guaranteed income when I'm old and bedridden.

[–] Goretantath@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

As long as I don't have to sleep MORE and get paid for the sleep I'm required to do to live, definitely sleep, no brainer. The thing I hate most about sleep is that I'm not doing anything while I sleep.

[–] Ajen@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Steps. I'd be rich and fit. I'm not either right now, but >$600/day is a good motivator. Does running count?

Then I'd be a millionaire in a couple years. I don't like running, but I'm petty sure that would change if someone paid me around $350-400/hr. 40 hours of that per week (obviously working up to it) would be $700-800k/yr. Push yourself to do 80 hours a week and youd be there in less than a year.

Edit: and I'd be in great shape. Getting paid to sleep would just make me lazy.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

I definitely beat that step count most days so give me the steps.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Sleep. My health problems can confine me to bed for some time with little walking.

With all that money maybe I can find out why!

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

480 a night every day of the year is almost 200k

The answer is obvious

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Sleep, I know I could make much more with the steps but, why?

[–] Baggie@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

Sleep, I'm always gonna sleep, my capacity to walk is limited. Then again I've got insomnia so...
