And then rediscover the show several years later, have forgotten all the plot so I have to start watching over from the beginning, stop watching 75% of the way through, repeat ad nauseam.

If I like the show, I will read the plot of the entire series. I will keep watching it, but my husband still hates it.

I despise watching shows as they come out because I can't stand being subject to their suspense building.

There is a reason tho. If you stopped watching, it clearly wasnt interesting or memorable enough to come back to your mind and reignite your interest for it.

Sometimes it is timing and distraction or changing circumstances. Especially when a lot of time passes between episode releases. If YouTube content creators can put out three videos a week on a shoestring budget, no major studio should ever tell me I have to wait four months for the next episode. I actually don't watch any shows where that kind of delay is even a possibility. Hollywood needs to learn from the media sources that are replacing them.

Honestly, I think this is a good thing. Sure, it means that I often don't finish shows or games, but I also don't care to, which suggests that it wasn't important to me anyway. I'm being more true to myself than to the expectations of society as a whole, which I think is healthy. I usually go back to an abandoned franchise when I'm ready, anyway, even if it's a decade or more later.

Did this with one show literally halfway through an episode too

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

I'm the same with games.

i did this with cowboy bebop multiple times over. it started becoming an annual occurrence. i didn't finish it until about four years after i started it. i checked it out on blu-ray from the library and the discs barely worked, i think that anger at the dysfunctional discs propelled me in motivation to actually finish watching it

I'm really conflict averse, so I find myself dropping anime right before climactic conflicts XD

Like I watched AoT all the way through to the episode before the rumbling

I'm enjoying Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, but like 6 episodes in, one of the characters made a terrible decision (calling one of the "bad guys" for help), and I had to stop watching and step away. Consequences will ensue, and I don't wanna see 'em!

Keep going! That's one of my very favorite shows!!! Everything works out surprisingly well in the end =)

I used to own a Chevrolet Astro, and I dressed it up as the Rowdy 3's van for Halloween one year

I also watch Independence Day every 4th of July and turn it off right after the White House blows up, but that's different

Hatewatching shows i already know I'm going to hate in the second monitor if my computer.

[–] pr06lefs@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

So hard for me to even make it through the first episode these days. I'm glad to see a lot of new sci-fi being popular but most of it is so boring.

"Everything everywhere all at once", but watching most of it standing in the living room, spread over 18 months.
