"This comes after Trump's acting U.S. attorney, Lindsey Halligan, has made a number of other missteps in the case. She was appointed under legally dubious circumstances, to the point that the DOJ has taken the step of proactively endorsing her appointment and the charges she is bringing, to try to avert a federal court disqualifying her."

Lindsey Halligan should be disqualified, and the case dismissed with prejudice.

Wake me up when someone actually does something to trump to hold him accountable….. for anything

I remember way back when that bribery and misuse of election funds case was brought up against Trump that I told my wife and I quote "if this ends up as more than a slap on the wrist I'll be surprised". I was very unsurprised.

This is on brand for that whole right wing swamp.

The Judge might write a sterner order!

[–] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 49 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In this case, the order for the DoJ was about discovery relating to a motion to dismiss based on vindictive prosecution. If they fail to comply with the discovery process, the judge can simply grant the motion to dismiss.

I mean, it's the DOJ that's trying to win a ruling against former AG James. If they're blatantly violating judicial orders, the idea that they're going to get a favorable ruling is laughable.

But the strategy of the current administration is to always double down. I suspect we'll see the House try to have the judge impeached. Or maybe ICE will just start ramming into defense attorneys' cars in the parking lot. That's all these thugs know how to do when they can't get their way.

Yep it shows that laws don't matter no more if you are part of 1%.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago

Sanction whatever lawyer signed their name to that motion. Trump may be immune to law, but an attorney still has to be bar certified in order to practice.

This why team Trump tried to capture the DC bar by running Pam Bondi's brother, a disbarred attorney cannot practice law in DC. Trump can't pardon a DC Bar decision.

So the case is dismissed, right? Right?

[–] Tower@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Which will just further serve Trump's narrative, regardless of its veracity. Fox News and OAN and everyone will just talk about the radical leftist judge throwing out the case because he hates Trump and by extension have America, never mentioning the reason it was dismissed, and his base will swallow it and smile.

I hope something healthier can eventually emerge. It's awful that so many people are affected by the situation.

I'd be much happier if the US could get its shit together rather than doubling down on fascism. It's a horror show.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 week ago

She looks completely hollowed out in that photo. Fucking ghoul

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Jesus christ, I so want to see that piece of shit Blondi go to prison.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Issue contempt warrants and keep issuing contempt warrants until they do as ordered.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

This seems like a good way to get the judge to find in favor of the defense motion to dismiss.
