This was entirely Queen Elizabeth's fault. She shielded Randy Andy for decades.

This is probably the tamest scandal the royal family has been part of.

I get the bitterness, but lets not normalize what he did.

That's on me, I could have been more clear

I meant all the performative bullshit with "punishing" him, not his horrible behavior. That's near the top of the list IMHO:

Keep in mind Henry VIII existed.

Keep in mind Henry VIII existed.

Yeah sure, but he lived half a millenium ago. It's not like we can really apply anything from those times into modernity, so while he was definitely a wild one, comparing him to modern royals/politics is a bit of a stretch imo.

It's not my fault the same family has been in charge forever.

While that is true, I'd argue it's worse to be a nonce in Anno Domini 2025 than it probably was to be an adulterous whoremongerer and somewhat kill-crazy in the 1500's.

But yeah as far as scandals go that was a doozy.

But they haven't

Been distracted by the whole US thing, whats happening over in the UK? y'all doing alright?

Prince Andrew, a pedophile, was finally stripped of his titles and priveleges. After a very, very long time of the royal family knowing. He was "allegedly" an Epstein client. Honestly, the monarchy should've been abolished centuries ago. At least in the US we try to pretend that we're not subsidizing billionaires.

Oh, well I'm glad -something- finally happened. Pretty pathetic it's the monarchy self policing but at least there was some acknowledgement of wrongdoing. Wish Virginia Giuffre was still around to see it.

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 3 points 5 months ago

Eh. I think it was just to try and salvage the reputation of the royals. Better than nothing, I guess. They're not even kicking him out of Windsor immediately. He'll still have plenty of money.

You Americans are so oppsessed with monarchy. Every time I see your president getting sworn in it reminded me of a coronation.

Well no, they might also murder you in a car crash

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 months ago

Sure but she wasn't part of the family.
