Or just add this to uBlock and never see them again.

www.youtube.com##:matches-path(/)a#thumbnail[href*="/shorts"]:upward(7)
www.youtube.com##:matches-path(/)a#endpoint[title*="Shorts"]

That only works in the browser

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Unless you NEED notifications, you should be using the browser

I mean I would argue you shouldn't be using anything except 3rd party clients. Preferably one that blocks "Shorts" entirely because vertical videos are insufferable and just wrong.

But regardless only like half of users are using the browser so that's not useful for those people.

This doesn't seem to work for their mobile site. Am I doing this right?

[–] remon@ani.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Try this for mobile:

m.youtube.com##.reel-shelf-items
m.youtube.com##.reel-shelf-header
[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think it worked, thanks! Would you also know what's needed to filter these cards in the feed too by chance?

[–] remon@ani.social 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I'm not sure, but I'm not getting them.

Upon checking my filters I found one more, maybe it's that one.

m.youtube.com##.rich-section-content
[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

That worked too. Thanks!

I block all their domains using my DNS server and won’t ever be tracked by them again.

[–] remon@ani.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But then you also can't watch regular videos anymore?

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] remon@ani.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well no. This is about blocking shorts, not about just not using youtube. There is plenty of good content on it.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean, blocking all of YouTube blocks all the shorts and it also blocks their disgusting tracking spyware littered across the web (not just Google properties).

I would rather a toggle that permanently disables the button on the bottom so it’s never ever possible to click ever again.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

YouTube revanced. No button on my ui

[–] tyler@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah i don’t use android though and not gonna spend time on a jailbreak anymore so I’m just using the app.

[–] olafurp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Also possible to hide them from the feed.

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

Turned shorts off all together in reVanced, so...

[–] Blisterexe@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago

It doesn't even let you hide them, smh

[–] capuccino@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I use the unhook plugin . It's a quick fix that enables you to able or disable youtube features. I use it because of that, due people still will send you shorts, and well, I can't say them "stop sending me that shit", I c-can't say that to my wife, you know?

Edit: on mobile yeah, fuck shorts. I love Vance.

I watch at most 5 a day. And most days 0. I guess that's the advantage of desktop, the controls aren't dumbed down to just flicking my finger across the screen.
