I mean, whoever is building that for him was never getting paid. So it really doesn't matter what it costs.

"This screw is bent, I ain't paying"

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Trump doesn't mind paying with other people's money, unless his paying keeps him from pocketing it himself.

It's like how he uses poor people's money to fund his campaign. Yes, he probably embezzles some of it, or a lot of it. But the parts that he has trouble keeping, he has no problem spending.

also can we please push back against people who present news in this form?

Regardless of whether it's true or not, it's bad that we normalize putting claims on an image and sharing it for people to react to without citing any kind of actual source.

(also, it's not even a proper meme)

I think this is supposed to be a jab/eye roll between people who are already in the know about the situation rather than the dissemination of information.

However, I am also uninformed about this and now have to go hunting. Wish a news link was provided alongside memes. Like old PennyArcade comics. Is that still a thing? Crap now I have two things I have to do.

The penny-arcade guy is one of the <10 people i actually trust on the Internet.

It's because it's a terrible font. White outlined in black is the way every time. Double lining in an alternative color is fucking stupid and difficult to read.

The OP has mentioned a few times it became a deliberate choice after they realised bots can't read it.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah. Right. Bots definitely can't read that, no way.

OCR converters can read it fine, I just tried

I’m actually dyslexic. It makes me feel like a member of Trump’s cabinet.

An estimated $230 million so far.

See, that's why you start with the demolition. Can't leave it like this, big ugly scar in a historic building, even if the costs have increased 10x from the original estimate. Got to keep paying.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 weeks ago

I wouldn't worry about it .... part way through the construction, they'll probably cancel the project ... but they won't cancel the payment transfer.

[–] Hux@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

I’m sure Putin’s construction team isn’t overly worried about the bill.

[–] trager_bombs@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I'm so sorry you had to learn this way.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

This is interesting. Wouldn't it be weird if work on that just stopped because the workers were not getting paid?

Playas the Tijuana? Nope

This instead:

That's what you get if you say no to the orange man.

A mother running for her life with her two young daughters:

Its just awful.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I have no context to that image, but it sickens me

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

Now, with the country, it’s interesting. Because I’m the one that makes the decision, right? And, you know, that decision would have to go across my desk. And it’s awfully strange to make a decision where I’m paying myself. [Turns to look over his shoulder]. Did you have one of those cases where you have to decide how much you’re paying yourself in damages?
