If it makes is less dependant on the asshole to our south, great.

In the linked article this one references it says that target is in 10 years. But also Canada hasn't had a very good track record of hitting the NATO spending targets.

I also imagine Carney by probability is long gone then.

If I'm reading these numbers correctly, that proposed $150 billion would be roughly 33% of last year's estimated total federal government spending. More like 50% of what they were spending before the current era of massive deficits.

Not all Canadians will be worse off as a result. Some are shareholders of the giant American defence contractors.

This is the same rubbish that is published in Europe and elsewhere. The most obvious issue with this article is that it doesn't even mention the rising threats by countries like Russia and China (Russia is spending around 8-10% of its GPD, or 40% of its public budget, for military. Numbers for China are hard to guess as the official data is not very reliable).

You can't publish such an opinion without even mentioning the rising threats.

I don’t get the point of these stupid articles. Canada needs to spend a lot more on military. A lot more. The only question is whether tagging it to GDP is enough or we need to do more.

We just need to be smarter about how we spend it. Canada has a huge territory with a small population, so efficiency is key.
