A place for optimism, relentless positivity, anti-doomerism, and snuggle sessions.

We're all in this together, and a better world is possible!

This is now also a space for organizing tips for our collective survival as we confront climate change and everything else. Still no doom-posting. We're here to work together, support each other, and boldly face the future.

Rules:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the site-wide Code of Conduct

  2. No doom, no gloom, only bloom. There's plenty of room for doomerism elsewhere. This community is solely for having a positive outlook on the future and spreading good vibes.

  3. Be kind to your fellow users. This also means no arguing in the comm. Arguments and negativity are not conducive to blooming. Constructive discussion is good. No interest-policing. Support your comrades in their joy!

  4. Always share good news. We can't exactly enforce this one, but if you have good news, please share it with us! Keeping happiness and positivity to yourself is the twelfth type of liberalism.

It's finally cold enough that I could wear my pea coat again for the first time today. Also I see tons of cats everyday:

We were out at a renfaire this weekend, and they taped a perimeter around a tree because an opossum was sleeping in it. They didn't want anyone to disterb it. Had his little tail curled around the branch to stabilize and arms and legs just dangling down. They were adorable!

would have loved to see that haha, I’ve never seen a wild critter asleep in real life, I read that squirrels sleep for multiple short periods, like 30 mins per nap

Getting re-certfied for security work next week, which will hopefully end a years-long spate of aimless depression by providing me with a means to go back to school and also just do fun things. I think the reason I'm good in this role is that I never wanted it in the first place and am not the kind of person to seek it out. A friend just asked me one day if I wanted to do concert security and here I am most of a decade later with years of experience in the job. No macho bullshit or high school bullying compensation, I'm the type of guard that dispenses smiles freely. I'd like to work in a hospital or medical research building this time, as places like that give me a sense of clear purpose and proximity to noble sciences that I find invigorating. Places of true human importance to which i can lend a calm and supportive presence.

Pretty evening sky. Sun rays shine through the clouds. Cool crisp blustery air. The leaves are turning autumn colors.

Wish me luck but on Wednesday I have a job interview. I plan on doing a study of the company website, and this job can help get me relocated to a more progressive part of the country. I may not ever leave the great satan, but I want to find any pocket where the imperial boomerang strikes the softest. I might actually have some days as a normal 20-something and start living the life porky is trying to steal from me.

I might actually go on dates, have friends, and if I’m not feeling it, just enjoy my apartment and not have to be judged by anyone. I can be the gay nerd I was always meant to be now that I’m no longer under the rural Ohio hogs’ watchful eyes.

Of course, that is if the hr team isn’t too picky.

I've spent five hours today writing an essay on community work from a Marxist perspective with a Star Trek quote as my baseline and it is turning out very nice and more coherent than I expected (considering the baseline sources that I am forced to use in it). I love it that I've been able to build it around this quote and kind of stay true to myself while doing it.

And now I'm just sitting here feeling very spent but happy about being able use a materialist perspective in a lib uni. I might be able to do what I have set myself to do in the long term if I can keep this up.

The weather also feels properly wintery today and it's just cozy being inside wearing wool socks and drinking tea. I am wearing my kufiya on my shoulders and it just feels so warm and cozy while the outside world is freezing more and more.

A friend also had a health scare late last night that turned out ok.

And I have great food ready to eat so I don't have to cook today.

Plus, my partner cleaned our home today too so there is no dust and everything looks tidy. No dishes, which is nice.

And I got my myself a new tart pan so I can make us a parisian flan later this week as a treat. I've really been on my baking bs again this autumn and it has been great for all involved. I have several treats lined up that I want to make. We typically eat them with tea after our hiking adventures with friends so I can share what I've done. It gives me so much joy.

I've been emotionally on a cloud for the past few days since having the insight that my local organizing group has a lot of young people (college age, 18-23) who are eager to get involved and have an unconventional approach to career development. By the time I buy a house (within the next year) or maybe sooner, I'll have started buying textbooks and other materials for them, and keeping a group study space and a workshop.

Imagine having all the materials you needed to study whatever you wanted, where having to pay rent was not an obstacle. I'm so close to making that happen for lots of my younger mind-kin.
