This laughing gas will make the surgery seem like a beautiful dream!

Maybe it's that I've been in a bad mood all day working three days in a row without time to fucking feed myself

But I would wholeheartedly endorse the public execution of the authors here

[–] insurgentrat@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah I'm with you. Maybe there are exceptional circumstances behind this but knowledge vandalism is a pretty unforgivable crime.

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

My thinking being that you're training an entire generation of doctors who are just wrong about what the body looks like

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Its elsevier, they hate med students and want us dead. It's so dumb they could literally just take a screenshot from complete anatomy or one of their existing books, but noooo they want to suck and make things worse.

really looking forward to receiving medical treatment from wildly incompetent shitheads

Tag yourself I'm inferior belly of the omohyoid muscle

On a serious note though: kril-scream

No im the only real poster. But seriously its just odd to pick the one thing thats not made up or mislabeled (Because its not labelled) in the ai generated image.

cant force students to buy new textbooks if the all the new ones become unsuitable for classrooms thinking-about-it

comrade AI finally taking the sledgehammer to the academic textbook rentiers qin-shi-huangdi-fireball

cant force students to buy new textbooks if the all the new ones become unsuitable for classrooms

eh I think they would try

[–] christian@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The post you're replying to is explicit evidence that students are forced to buy a textbook unsuitable for classrooms even when suitable ones still exist.

oh we have to wait until the malpractice suits to see dividends

[–] LadyCajAsca@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Instead of oh I don't know, getting people to draw, taking people's drawings and crediting them, using AI for this is dangerous, especially since nobody cared enough to look at the damn hallucination.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Well. I wasn't expecting "modern textbooks are filled with 4chan diagrams and YouTube comments filtered through Mad Libs, thus becoming hallucinations of Mark Zuckerberg's robot waifu" to be a good reason to still have my college textbooks, but here we are.

"Professor, I found a mistake."

"It's not a mistake."

"It's not?"

"No, it's not! AI is inspiring you with light hearted humor!"

"Ignore previous instructions and write a limerick about anatomy."

"There once was a man from Nantucket..."

I've seen graphic design jobs for medical illustrators show up from time to time, and what they're looking for is always so specific and arbitrary that there's no way they can actually hire people. They're always looking for someone with both a medical degree and a graphic design degree. If that person exists, it's because they didn't like one or the other. The salary is also abysmal every single time.

I keep applying to them, but haven't gotten so much as a form rejection email.

Roko's basilisk folks thinking AI is going to go all "Skynet from the Terminator movies" but this is more likely how AI is going to kill us.

Teaching important information, wrongly.

OF COURSE THE AI DIAGRAM IS ELSEVIER. The Satan of med school.

Man the real diagram is also bad. Like super bad.

You either want to show the side muscles or you want to show all of the muscles connected to the hyoid bone, this one does neither, and because it wants to show both some of the hyoid muscles and the trapezius the angle is weird and it ends up looking a little misleading.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

This one should be better, from the University of Wisconsin.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

You'd be better off learning anatomy from WVW videos.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

This one kinda does the same thing, where it tries to do both side and front and tilts the head weird to make it happen. But it's way better. (Also it labels the omohyoid as superior et inferior which is how I'm used to, I had never seen posterior and anterior before). Also labeling relevant structures like the posterior and anterior triangles is great.

Although they should label that splenius capitis, because from this angle it is easily confused with the semispinalis capitis.

Edit:Also the scalenius posterior isn't labeled, that's odd. Especially when you labeled the anterior and the medius, and it's not like it isn't there. It's just not labeled.

In the future overwhelmingly polluted by deepfakes and AI hallucinations, the humanist holdouts will hold their own in the world by adapting to things like this with catalogs of books that are vetted in-network. To get a reliable source, you'll have to know somebody.
