For fucks sake, she can't even say "fascist dictator" and resorts to this? all just to shill her new book? Lmao, no self-respect

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago

Amerikkkan politics is just two right-wing parties accusing each other of being communists.

‘she believed “titans of industry would be guardrails for our democracy.”

“And one by one by one, they have been silent, they have been … feckless,” Harris said. “It’s not like they’re going to lose their yacht or their house in the Hamptons.”’

Lmao oh my god corporations bent at the knee immediately for a chance to make an extra maybe some of that communism would tight right about now, eh cop?

Has lemmy.ml implemented pronoun tags? Or is that some cool hack?

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago

You can manually edit your display name in the settings, no pronoun tags unfortunately.

I can’t believe anyone would take the opposite of ‘communism is when the government does stuff’ to unironically say ‘democracy is when capital gets to decide stuff’.

Astounding stuff.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

‘democracy is when capital gets to decide stuff’.

Oh did she say that

Maybe she's channeling something she heard her dad say about "liberal bourgeois democracy"

I mean it reads like she was saying people compared the strength of the U.S.'s democracy to that of communist dictators strength.

As in the dictators had strong governments, and the U.S.'s democracy was just as strong in her mind.

She was trying to compare Trump to a tyrant and clearly showing that democracy was falling apart.

At no time in this text would I think she was actually calling Trump a communist.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 month ago

Socialist countries have more comprehensively effective democracy than the US ever had, it's just naked and absurd anti-communism from Harris.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Dawg i don't know what's wrong with you

We used to compare the strength of our democracy to communist dictators. That’s what we’re dealing with right now in Donald Trump

"THAT'S WHAT WE'RE DEALING WITH RIGHT NOW IN TRUMP" with the direct antecedent being "communist dictators." "That" being a "comparison between capitalist democracy and communist dictators" doesn't make any fucking sense in that context. She's calling him a communist dictator.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

this was the line r/politics was pushing too, it's some kind of liberal cope

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"Democracy sustains capitalism. Capitalism thrives in a democracy. And, right now, we are dealing with, as I called him at my speech on the Ellipse, a tyrant,” she said, referencing her rally last year on the White House Ellipse in Washington. “We used to compare the strength of our democracy to communist dictators. That’s what we’re dealing with right now in Donald Trump. And these titans of industry are not speaking up,”"

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 month ago

“The obscenely wealthy ‘titans’ who funded Trump’s election campaign and attended his inauguration are not speaking up.”

[–] Dippy@beehaw.org 14 points 1 month ago

Ugh, if he was a communist dictator we would be getting, bare minimum, a handful of cool social welfare programs to go along with the dictatorial oppression

Same energy as when Americans see empty grocery store shelves and go "OMG THIS IS LIKE SOVIET RUSSIA!!!" Like, no you idiot, this is like capitalist America. Where you're living in. Where the 100% capitalist, anticommunist policy has failed.

A REAL American would have already finished the job in Gaza

[–] belated_frog_pants@beehaw.org 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

These people have no fucking clue what words mean apparently. He's a fascist.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 month ago

She's* a fascist, implying he's not fascist enough.

[–] Catalyst_A@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago

What a genocidal loser.

[–] viking@beehaw.org 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The fact that Harris trusted mega corporations to protect against Trump makes me very disappointed in her. I assume she actually does know the difference between communism and fascism and flubbed her words, but maybe not.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

She's not flubbing her words, she's a committed liberal and is thus more aligned with fascism and against communism.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Is it only me or does Americans always need some sort of label to judge people, instead of just basic morals?

[–] Kn1ghtDigital@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Labels make it easy to tell you who you should hate.

[–] ACbHrhMJ@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Only if you can't measure it in units of football fields

Oh my god every time it talks I hate it more.
