The #US again vetoed the resolution calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza

The resolution, which was voted in favor by 14 other council members, called for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, to be respected by all parties, for the immediate & unconditional lifting of all restrictions on the entry & distribution of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

they should make a UN 2 that is identical to the UN but without the U.S.

@LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins
Germany and UK will happily step up and take that position

No reason to exclude people, lots of reasons to not give them unilateral vetoes though. Or to not recognize illegitimate states beyond the people they supposedly represent. Hmm.

lol fuck the u.s., nerd. I live here and it's going to continue ruining the world for at least 20 years

Correcting the U.S. superiority complex by making them play by the same rules as everyone else seems wildly appropriate to me. And also doesn't cater to any persecution fantasies.

Or Russia, or China, or the UK given its current trajectory.

Oh right, didn't notice the instance.

I don't see China or Russia vetoing a ceasefire for a genocide

Crazy how this didn't change even slightly between Biden and Trump. And here I thought they were polar opposites! /s

[–] faab64@freefree.ps 5 points 3 months ago

@dx1
Well 5 vetoes by Biden compared to 1 for Trump. He still has ways to go to reach Biden level

No single country should have the power to stop a near unanimous resolution.

@reverendz
Sadly it's the rules of the game. 5 permanent members have the veto rights and US has been the protector of Israel for decades

[–] reverendz@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 months ago

It’s bogus. The whole idea is imperialism.

[–] psycocan@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They look like psychopaths. I know they are but they also look it

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

it's crazier than that. these people are vetted for their beliefs before they're appointed to these positions.

they're worse than psychopaths, they're ideologues whose actions are hidden under popular consensus.

They are free to do anything to anyone, anywhere in the world

That's the American freedom

And yes you will get into trouble if you try to deny their global freedom

Last time their argument was that if we just hold out, their peace negotiation through Qatar was going to be longer lasting and better for both parties, and that any other agreement was adding unnecessary friction.

Then it turned out, predictably, that that process was a trap to assassinate the negotiators.

@Mannanan
Both parties are United behind Israel.

Bident vetoed UN 5 times to protect Israel's right to commit genocide.

But his cult making fun of the suffering of Palestinians as 13 months of genocide didn't happen under Biden's protection
