Whatever Tyler Robinson's personal beliefs were is irrelevant

I hate that they have us playing this game, we can agree that murder is wrong without venerating Charlie Kirk and without throwing a group of people under the bus, because if we wanted to play that game... well we don't need Tyler Robinson.

But, of course, none of that really matters because it's not really about who's right or wrong. It's about them having an excuse to kill people they disagree with.

Conservatism is always about giving people an other, and in this case the other is defined as anyone who stands in their way, and they're pointing them at us with a gun.

Because at the end of the day the only real Us and Them is the rich and the poor and they know it so they keep us busy fighting a culture war so we don't fight the class war.

There are people who legitimately look at a chart like that and think, “hmm, yes, both sides are doing it.”

[–] Niquarl@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

What happened in 2016?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago

his beliefs is totally relevant as are may of the shooters in america. as many of them are super-alt right.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

we can agree that murder is wrong

Across the board? Fuck no, we can't.

The only thing that gives an idea about the motive or ideology of the killer are what was inscribed on the bullets. The inscriptions on the bullets link him to 4chan groypers. However, the dude didn't vote in the past two elections. I can't really make sense of it. But I agree, the far right is trying really hard to paint the guy as a lefty, claiming that he was in a relationship with his MTF roommate. I can't find a credible source to verify this, I'm only seeing that argument posted on Fox and Newsmax.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 45 points 4 days ago (6 children)

But I agree, the far right is trying really hard to paint the guy as a lefty, claiming that he was in a relationship with his MTF roommate.

The existence of such a "relationship" has only come from the mouth of UT Gov Spencer Cox, without any more detail than that, and then been repeated from there. Even if we take that as "bible truth", let's not forget about Grindr usage spikes at Republican conventions.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 15 points 4 days ago (2 children)

has only come from the mouth of UT Gov Spencer Cox

So they're trying to do an "immigrants eating pets" to start a rumor, get all the pundits, influencers and other talking heads to repeat it to elevate it to accepted fact status.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 days ago

Basically. The guy who was publicly wrong as shit during his previous press conference is now trying to make more shit up to make himself look like less of a complete fool (unsuccessfully), and also provide his previous enthusiasm for targeting the left in retribution with some (albeit flimsy) justification.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago

I’m not saying that is as blatantly false on its face as the immigrants eating pets thing, but the rest of your comment is 100% correct.

Considering he lived with his parents that mrf roommate shit seems a little sus.

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 10 points 4 days ago

Yeah, it's not Alabama.

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Considering that the inscriptions on the bullets were anti fascist, wouldn't right wingers calling him a leftist be admitted that their ideology is fascist?

[–] Sc00ter@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago

This has always been a question of mine. I only learned about ANTIFA when trump started on about how they were against him and he against them... like, isnt that an admission that hes the fascist ?

[–] bennypr0fane@discuss.tchncs.de 23 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

While it's clearly bullshit to claim that Robsinson was a leftist, it also seems dishonest to paint him as right-wing. Especially his motive remains shrouded in mystery and certainly can't be boiled to "Kirk wasn't right-wing enough" at this point. It all seems super ambiguous, there's no simple explanation there.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

A recent shared chat conversation (not quite so verified, take it with a grain of salt) cited him saying Kirk was just too hateful.

That’s a very broad thought any human can come to, even without “subscribing to left wing ideologies”.

If you want to avoid political assassination in America, tone down hateful rhetoric, tone down guns. Whichever side owns them.

[–] ghen@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

That chat reads like a Patel made children's story so I'm gonna stay sus until the court case

[–] ysjet@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

You need to remember that right wingers are pretty terrible at recognizing their own bias. When Robinson's friends are like 'we're a completely political neutral discord, praise God almighty', you need to understand what's actually being said when they also claim that Robinson was 'politically neutral.'

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 32 points 4 days ago (13 children)

Whether he's right or left, he was radicalized by what he heard from the right.

It’s too early to tell his current political affiliation or motivation. The right is saying he was dating his trans roommate and pissed at Kirk’s anti-trans stance. The left is saying he was so far right that he believed Kirk was too liberal. Everything is speculation. The only people with thorough knowledge of his motives are the investigators.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 28 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think you give to much credit to the investigators. Most of the decent ones got fired and this episode shows that competence isn't their greatest asset.

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Two things can be true though. The investigators might not be competent but they still have more knowledge on the motives than random people online who seem to only be parroting the information that they've read and agree with.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago

The fact that those same investigators are claiming the guy who turned himself in is being uncooperative seems to indicate he's not letting them slap a left wing ideology into his right wing groyper shit

[–] RedditRefugee69@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 3 days ago

"Might have more knowledge" ≠ "have thorough knowledge."

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The only people with thorough knowledge of his motives are the investigators.

Well, and the killer, one would think.

in any case it's a safe bet to say he's far right because something like 90% of american terrorism cases are far right

I read an article in a conservative comm that was tripping all over itself to say he was leftist. Have you heard the roommate was trans? Better mention that 3 times. Groyper? Obviously that means he was far left and far right simultaneously.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Total misuse/misunderstanding of the meme, FYI. It's supposed to represent straining/restraining.

[–] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Do you have a list of where these meme rules are? I ducked-ducked-went, and gargled, but no dice.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)
[–] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

So the kid can only strain if he's only holding farts, and not refraining from screaming?
Is there an appeal process? I'm asking bc you seem well-meme-versed.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That's fine if that's what you were going for, but then it should be written as "Trying not to scream while watching a right-wing man kill another right-wing man at a right-wing event at a right wing college- etc." Then the bottom text could read "While they blame left-wing extremism."

The current formatting makes it look like the kid is somehow the one angry at left wing extremists.

It's not a big deal, but worth pointing out imo.
