Yeah, I opened the website thinkint it would be the github list with a better search, but it's 95% AI crap

Yesterday I found opensourcealternative.to. Today this.

They seem to be made by different people, but look very similar, and have the same comp ai ad at the top of the page.

Both are setup to profit from these recommendations, especially the one in the OP. I'm not suggesting these aren't useful sites, but that there are financial motivations at play as well

i wonder how they can capitalize off of open source project recommendations.

By selling advertiser space via their website and newsletter they encourage people to sign up for. You can tell the one in the OP is focused on that in their advertise page https://openalternative.co/advertise and the ad for the owners other platforms which help people monetize list/data table sites like this.

I also like Zed, to me it sits in that sweet spot between (n)vim and vscode, it's super snappy, has a good ecosystem of extensions/plugins and as a bonus it's not a trojan horse for Microsoft

I thought its the zed browser

[–] fartsparkles@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Do you mean Zen Browser? Zed is a text/code editor.

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

tbh I use zen too and the icons are similar and i get tripped up too. ended up keybinding each to a custom keyboard command each to avoid launcher mis-fires lol

I thought it is Zed the RTS game.

it’s fast. very fast and not over bloated yet. built by the team behind electron and atom.

I don't like that Zed has such an AI focus, but it is a pretty solid editor otherwise.

More usefull the list of EU alternatives to get away from the US hegemony or simply the mandatory AlternativeYo page, if I want AI crap, I prefer Futurepedia, Futuretools or Hugging face,

[–] SavageCoconut@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Excellent website i didn't know it existed. I'm surprised that alternative to AutoCAD like librecad or neocad are posted there 🤔🤔
