On one hand, I understand that this initiative is to provide poor rural people with internet. Otoh, I wish that if they weren't giving money to Musk and Bezos. Even better would be, idk, making an initiative to coordinate with other states and nations to launch their own satellite internet.

And on the other other hand - I'm honestly not super sympathetic to the people receiving this subsidy. Sure, if you are living on your ancestral homeland where your great great grandpappy established his ranch... fine, I'll pay for your internet. But if you said, in 2025, "fuck society - I'm buying land in the middle of fucking nowhere and living there. I don't need anyone else!" - then, no, I don't think I should be subsidizing your internet connection. Living in the middle of nowhere was a choice you made all on your own. It shouldn't be my responsibility to make sure you have internet porn.

You know what would really work well? If the state just provided it's own service. Then you would be in a nonprofit model instead of making billionaires richer.
