An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

...whilst she eats it like a typewriter carriage.
48 years together.

I just finished eating another 2 cobs today, and I noticed I switched it up between the styles, sometimes during the same nibbling!

I'm doomed now that I'll never eat a cob without thinking about typewriters and the like....

Team typewriter all the way!

Of course, but, then I wondered, how many people know what this means? It's not like typewriters are a common thing anymore.

EDIT: Apparently, yes. Some GenZ are "rediscovering" typewriters. In the same way they're interested in film photography.

Okay. We're doing a spreadsheet. Are you eating your corn by columns or by rows?

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

What's a spreadsheet? You mean like the way you scroll TikTok vs. the way you swipe people on Tinder?

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Spiral -like: A1, B2, C3, D4, etc ... Until excel runs out and it wraps up to A2, B3, C4 and so on.

I wonder what percentage of Excel users have ever been to the end of the Excel spreadsheet? Or knows they even have an end? If you've never been you're not missing much, but I won't blame you if you get bitten by curiosity over what's at the final frontier.

... there are people who don't spiral it?

[–] prex@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago

Pedants & mathemeticians helix it.

[–] morphballganon@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 week ago

I don't know what spiral means in this context, but I think I eat it in columns. Bite the middle, finish that column up and down, move over to the next column and repeat

[–] prex@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago

Perhaps you can compromise and chomp a thread into it.
