Self Improvement

1 users here now

A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.

While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.

This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.

  1. Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.

  1. Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.

  1. Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.

  1. Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.

Language, chess, still working on State and Revolution. Ran a 10k this weekend and last. 2 weeks to the trail 1/2 so I need to get in a 15+ mile run in the next week.

You've got this, comrades!

My week wasn't great in terms of mood but I managed to make some progress. I went running on 3 days in a row. Practiced meditation on 5 days in a row. Did some reading on a few days.

These three habits are now my pillars and it is something that I strive for every week. I invite everybody to take The Moonlake Challenge - every day from Monday to Friday:

  1. Run for 10 minutes
  2. Meditate for 10 minutes
  3. Read for 10 minutes (before sleep)

It's only 30 minutes total per day so it's something that I can sustain long-term. After many years of self-improvement, I think these habits are the best bang for your buck. Maximum results for minimum effort.

I frame it as a challenge since it's more fun that way but it's just something to strive towards, it's not reasonable to expect the 15/15 score every week. Let me know if anybody attempts it rat-salute-2

Interplay is the program I'm using to learn of HVAC stuff, been learning these past days how chillers work, how to diagnose them and fix issues with them. No company is hiring me yet so it's a good way for me to learn at least, heard other people have used it to learn and then get NATE certified and then hired. I wish there was a better way like on the job training but guess this is what I have to do.

Grind set of 4 hours of study a day Tuesday to Friday. When I get home I cook eat and sleep. My dream is still HVAC but the pace to get there is leaving me frustrated sometimes. Flip side this interplay stuff is accredited at least so it ain't useless
