I bought a Steam key for the game Hi-Fi RUSH from Fanatical today after reading numerous reviews and reports from proton.db, only to find that the game just does not launch. I press PLAY in Steam and all it does is change the PLAY button to CANCEL. I have tried forcing numerous different versions of Proton, adding -safe or -dx11 to advanced startup options, and updating all packages and the kernel, but it still does as described before.

OS: Linux Mint 21.2 x86_64

Kernel: 5.15.0-88-generic

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X (16) @ 3.400G

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Lite Ha

Memory: 16GB

What should I try to get the game running? Are there any better places i can ask this? Any help would be appreciated.

Can you run the game from the terminal so you can see any error messages that are popping up? To do that, exit steam and run steam steam://rungamebyid/1817230

I'm assuming you're talking about this game which has an App ID of 1817230. If it's a different version of that game, find it on steamdb and use the App ID from the correct game.

Personally I like to use dmesg --follow and launch the game normally since getting the ID is usually a pain in the butt

I did that and now it just works - Thanks I guess?

Sometimes there are recommended steps on protondb, not sure if you tried those sometimes switching proton versions can help too.

Actually was trying to play it a day or so ago. For me at least, setting the compatibility version in the game properties to "Proton Experimental" worked.

Have you tried proton 7.0-5? There was another mint user that got it working on protondb 9months ago
