America needs some of the freedom they've been bleating on about and bombing people for. They've become a hostile nation to all free loving people.

Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.
(This list may get expanded as necessary.)
Posts that link to the following sources will be removed
- on any topic: Al Mayadeen, brusselssignal:eu, citjourno:com, europesays:com, Breitbart, Daily Caller, Fox, GB News, geo-trends:eu, news-pravda:com, OAN, RT, sociable:co, any AI slop sites (when in doubt please look for a credible imprint/about page), change:org (for privacy reasons)

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media. Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com
(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)
Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org
USA would invade USA to save it if it wasn't their own country
They're sort of doing that now though with DC and Chicago.
Only if it got oil or a government not aligned with the US dared to get into power.
Well the US definitely has oil and according to MAGA Democrats are a bigger threat to America than Russia, so they would definitely invade eventually.
I’ve listen to many people online (and a few in person) talk about “freedom”. I have the distinct impression that what some are trying to say is actually “privilege”. They want the privilege and excesses gained by oppressing and exploiting others: a cheap lifestyle free from the burden of empathy and concern for others.
The issue for too many people isn’t the exploitation and evils being committed in their name. It’s that the proceeds are being shared among the elite and not them.
Real freedom includes everybody and is non-discriminatory.
Yeah, including our actual citizens. Nobody hates the American poor like the American government.
The EU is gonna pay to avoid the same tariffs over and over... that's what you get when you negotiate with terrorists.
So when we will finally start calling out and opposing US fascism?
An overly dramatic title and a paywall.
Et tu, Le Monde?
The EU should stop dealing with Krasnov. The asswipes don't want to pay their fair share, then proceed to tariff the shit out of their digital services.
It would be devastating if the two biggest democratic economic blocks would engage in a trade war. I think it is best to strategically accept the conditions. After all, it is important to uphold the European values of freedom and equality and human rights. I am proud of what the EU has achieved and is going to achieve while moving forward in a constructive way. We need more conscious decisions.
And the next time?
Have you never had to deal with a bully before?
The USA are Europe's most trusted partner. Our joined history gives us the confidence to deepen our commitment to this mutually advantageous relationship. By accepting the US's leadership towards enabling a vision for digital enrichment and prosperity we deepen our commitment to preserving the environment to create a better and more sustainable future for our children. The continuity of the joined progression serves the European population as their guiding council in our rapidly changing global world.
The Canadians feel the same way
What I cannot decide is if Europe has painted itself into a corner by bad decisions or if this is a good cop bad cop situation.
In both cases it's wild that we look down on Trump for almost 10 years but we still go along.
Your analysis isn't great.
Intertwined economies made sense for many reasons, when we all thought that we could work together. Now the world has changed, and many nations want to work against each other.
Europe's good actors are likely trying decide how long they need to build relations that are not so sensitive to these kinds of disruptions, and trying to decide how much they need to put up with until then. Europe's bad actors are trying to figure out how to leverage tensions for more domestic power.
Why accept the bullying though? Are there enough good actors that have an influence?
