Democratic Whip Katherine Clark of Massachusetts called Israel’s war on Gaza a genocide Thursday night, making her the highest-ranking House Democratic official to do so.

Up to this point, Clark has largely aligned with the rest of Democratic leadership on Israel’s war – expressing concern for civilian harm, advocating for an “end to the hostilities” (and, eventually calling for a ceasefire), and criticizing the Benjamin Netanyahu government. But she has fallen short of advocating for conditioning or ending aid to Israel, or supporting resolutions like Rep. Delia Ramirez’s “Block the Bombs” Act.

AIPAC features Clark on their website alongside the five other top Republicans and Democrats in the House, with the caption: “We stand with those who stand with Israel.”

One day, everyone will have been against this

[–] limer@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 weeks ago

And will be busy promulgating a new genocide

And that's why I love the idea of the accountability archive.

Never let them remove their uniform. Never let them slip back into their old roles. Never let them pretend they were against the genocide before it was convenient.

i foresee the accountability archive's reputation being tarnished by entities like the american government; the heritage foundation; aipac; etc. and that tarnishment being enabled by legacy and social media.

in the future: the accountability archive will be regarded by people in the west in the same way that antifa is regarded by maga now.

And they'll blame the actual left for muddying the waters or something which made it take longer for them to realize what was actually going on

Matt Yglesias already has an article out blaming us for "Crying wolf" about genocide

i wish he'd be fed to a wolf

That spongebob meme w/ the diapers but it's labeled clear evidence of genocide and it ends with "how could the left hide this from us"

Nearly two years in and they're begrudgingly calling a genocide what it is while still not doing anything about it. Hey Katherine, why doesn't your name come up when I search for congresspeople who oppose arming Israel?

Wow! At this rate, they'll be able to write a strongly worded letter encouraging the formation of a bipartisan committee to investigate the possibility of initiating the process of formally issuing a complaint roughly 10 years after any of it matters!

Foot dragging, ass covering, laying the groundwork to claim they were always against this. Whole party of shy Hitlers. Glory to Yemen.

Did she just get back from vacation where there was no wifi?

[–] vfreire85@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago

how many times did she choked before actually saying it?

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago

The only issue I have with Yemen is that it's too far away to fire rockets directly into congress.

So after sending them arms for 2 years we decide to call it a genocide. So like what the western world as done for most genocides.
