The expression "hot air" refers to empty, exaggerated, or pretentious talk or writing. It describes statements that sound impressive but lack substance, meaning, or truth. Essentially, it's talk that is all show and no go, according to some dictionaries.

(yes this is a slop response but I didn't input it into Google I googled the expression and forgot to add -noai)

Wiping your hands on your pants is far more hygienic than using these dryers. 🀒

Ah yes, the disease spreaders.

Conservative leadership? Yup.

I heard the Dyson ones are even worse.

Yup, high velocity air means it just spreads more virus/bacteria further.

Something tells me we could mitigate this by using negative pressure so the air stream can be directed inwards, then trap the bacteria in a filter. Or skip the filter and duct the exhaust outside via the existing ducts 99% of washrooms have.

Or just use a paper towel.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I like paper towels but I'm afraid to look at their environmental footprint.

Did you also believe the recycling program was real?

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Up to some point. That said paper != plastic. Different inputs, different production, different outputs, different recycling.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Uh... You might wanna look into that.

To find what? In most western countries 70-85% of the paper is recycled. Compared to plastic with 14% recycling rate in the EU and less than 5% in the US. And while plastic is mostly downcycled into lower quality items like garden benches and building materials, recycling paper is used for almost all kinds of products from newspapers to towels. 85% recycling is already close to the maximum possible as with every cycle the fibre lenghth decreases, so you have to replace some old paper with new material. But even then, the paper you have to throw out is just tree fibre and not some artificial material that takes 5000 years to decompose.

Aka it’s better for one’s health to not push the button and listen to Pierre’s emissions.

Stop hanging around public bathrooms. 🀒

I've heard this before, and I've also heard that this is a myth. Is there any peer-reviewed literature on the topic?

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

I'm sure you can do your own legwork.

[–] PhAzE@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You're already in the same room as the air breathing it in.

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't know about you, but I don't tend to breath water.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

You're missing the point. Two words: fecal particulate.

[–] Gustephan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Again? I just heard a PP speech, right after I sat down to shit

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well that would scare the shit out of me.

[–] Gustephan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It was supposed to be a joke but I dont think I pulled off lol. "Puckered white asshole extrudes a bunch of stuff that is obviously shit, barely makes a splash." Is a description that applies to both a PP speech and to a public restroom bowel movement. The joke was supposed to be that I just took a shit and mistook the sound for PP speaking, I dont want to turn on the hot air machine and hear it again
