Welcome to c/disabled, an anticapitalist community for disabled people/people with disability(s).

What is disability justice? Disability justice is a framework of activism which centers disabled people of multiple intersections. Before participating in in this community, please read the Ten Principles of Disability Justice.

Do I count as disabled/a person with disability(s)? "Disability" is an umbrella term which encompasses physical disabilities, emotional/psychiatric disabilities, neurodivergence, intellectual/developmental disabilities, sensory disabilities, invisible disabilities, and more. You do not have to have an official diagnosis to consider yourself disabled.

Follow the Rules:

  1. This comm is open to everyone. However, the megathread is only open to people who self-identify as disabled/a person with disability(s). We center the experiences of disabled people here, and if you are abled we ask that you please respect that.
  2. Follow the principles of disability justice, as outlined in the link above.
  3. Zero tolerance for ableism. That includes lateral ableism. Ableism will result in a ban.
  4. No COVID minimization.
  5. Do not offer unsoliticed health advice. We do not want to hear about the wonders of exercise or meditation, thank you very much. Additionally, do not moralize health or "healthy choices".
  6. If posting an image, please write an image description for our blind/low vision comrades. (If doing this is inaccessible to you, DM one of the mods and we will help.)
  7. Please CW and spoiler tag discussions of ableism.
  8. When it comes to identify-first vs person-first language, respect the language that people choose for themselves. If someone wants to be referred to as a disabled person, respect that. If someone wants to be referred to as a person with a disability, respect that.
  9. Try to avoid using ableist language. It is always good to be mindful of the way language has been used to oppress and harm people.
  10. Follow the Hexbear Code of Conduct.

Let's kick back and have fun!

MODERATORS

Hello everyone, I'll be hosting the megathread while un_mask_me is out.

I completely forgot I had to post it until just now.

As always, we ask that in order to participate in the weekly megathread, one self-identifies as some form of disabled, which is broadly defined in the community sidebar:

"Disability" is an umbrella term which encompasses physical disabilities, emotional/psychiatric disabilities, neurodivergence, intellectual/developmental disabilities, sensory disabilities, invisible disabilities, and more. You do not have to have an official diagnosis to consider yourself disabled.

Mask up, love one another, and stay alive for one more week.

School is back soon. I don't know how I'll deal with having a real schedule again.

Positivity update but I got an apartment locked in. I got a ton of stuff to do ahead of time though. After the last 48 hours, I'm honestly looking forward to getting out of this shitty situation. Shit was perfectly fine 3 weeks ago and idk what the fuck happened. Roommate applications are now open for goth metalhead socialists though. But ya gotta like deathcore. No hate.

Tiny caveat about the apartment that I do need to figure out but I want to run ethernet directly to my computer so I no longer have to deal with Linux wifi shit and idk where the drop is.

lol i would totally live with you as we're going thru eerily similar shit... but our musical tastes would require we knife fight at sundown.... (imma bluegrass fan, it's in the bylaws).

anyway good luck, i at least know how painful it is, what you're going thru, as I'm currently going thru it too. let us do our best together (but out of earshot)!

I've had it with dignitas. I am not going to deal with them any more. As if they haven't messed me around enough already, now they're saying they've found my membership form after all but it isn't signed. So they want me to go through the membership process again anyway. I don't believe it's not signed, if it was, why did they accept my membership in the first place? They are an absolute shambles. All this just to get a cup of nembutal dissolved in water!

The incompetence of some organizations is just mind-boggling. I'm sorry you had to deal with this. :(

Any chance the podiatrist could help you get a different one for the right foot? Or would that entail getting a new appointment and going through all of the steps again?

I've taken them both out for now. I'll ask if i can wear just one. My next appointment has now been made for the 21st so just another week to go. better than the two weeks they originally quoted me.

Broth cooked rice with veggies. spices and usually some kind of meat (In my case soy chunks). Also dried fruits and nuts if that's your game (It isn't in this case, because I don't have any this time) There's roughly a billion varieties so narrowing it down is tricky. What I made is basically plov (One of the many varieties) with some swapped spices and no meat. So you have some sauteed carrots and soy chunks with a bunch of onion, you make some broth, wash some rice, and then you sort of boil the whole together in one pot with a ton of garlic and spice and you get my (Current) take on pilaf. It's one of the best things you can make with one cooking vessel imo.
