Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Release the Trump-Epstein files

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Normalize calling them the Trump/Epstein Files

We changed people saying "Trump fucked kids" to "Trump rapes kids" in just a few days.

Phrasing matters, and it especially matters to him. Once we call it the Trump/Epstein files, news orgs will too.

he might be losing but the bubble he lives in says he's winning

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 27 points 7 months ago

Right, he's winning the war because he's not on America's side.

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 19 points 7 months ago (3 children)

But the real question is... is he personally richer? If so, then it's working.

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 24 points 7 months ago

He got a glass statue on a gold base from Tim Apple, so I guess he’s winning.

The one and only metric.

The wealth of the monarch is the wealth of the state

We’re not there yet. Right now we’re working on appealing the 19th, it sounds like. So early 1900s

There's an important revenue boost from tariffs. On the other hand, Trump's is defunding a lot a federal organizations. Where is the money going?

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 20 points 7 months ago

Billionaire tax cuts.

[–] imrighthere@lemmy.ca 15 points 7 months ago

About 170 billion is going to form the gestapo, the rest is going in his pockets.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Tariffs are just another tax on Americans.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 12 points 7 months ago (2 children)

About half of 'ordinary americans' wanted this.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

77.3m american voters directly cast their ballot for Donald Trump in 2024. That's hardly half.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 5 points 7 months ago

Doesn't matter.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

77M of 155M or 49%, about half.

You can extrapolate that the voting population approximately represents the non-voting population. Or, if you are a prick, you can say that non-voters didn't want this but refrained from voting and are therefore to blame, in which case they still chose this.

America has always been a racists, bigoted, sexist, right-wing playground. The only thing that has changed is that now they don't have to hide it.

That’s not half of ordinary Americans that’s those who voted within the turnout.

The 13 colonies was vastly different from the modern 50 states.

You shouldn’t paint the various time periods in American history the same broad brush.

America was not the same as it is today. FDR was magnitudes of a better man than Donald Trump ever was. Not to mention the populace’s beliefs have evolved over time.

It's only losing if you believe the goal was actually to improve the US economy.
