Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

huh? "what you talkin 'bout Willis?"

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 0 points 7 months ago (2 children)

77/300 = 26%

Edit: looked it up. US pop in 2024 was about 340M. So 77/340 = 23%

[–] Penguincoder@beehaw.org 3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

174m voted.

So 77/174 = 44%

So, about half voted for this, is correct.

That's an abysmal low turnout of 64.1%, first-past-the-post screwed America once again.

You didn't say voters, you said Americans. You are trying to say something about all Americans, it seems.

I will ask again: where are you moving the goalposts to next?

Edit: for clarity on why I am responding: a very small percentage of Americans wanted this. Our electoral system is shit. When you say a large percentage of Americans wanted this you are not only incorrect, but you are giving a mandate to a man who doesn't have one.

I didn't say anything to you previously about this topic. YOU SAID

There are over 300M Americans. How many voted for this?

I answered your question and corrected your math. How many VOTED for this.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 3 points 7 months ago

Yup, first-past-the-post, red states purging votes, voter intimidation, corporate media and the electoral college nannied Donald Trump into power a second time.

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Did you account for under 18s, non-citizens, or others disqualified from voting? How does that match with only ~155m votes cast?

[–] andyburke@fedia.io -3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

YOU said Americans. You didn't say voters, you didn't say adults, you didn't qualify anything.

See my edit above if you are still wanting to argue this.

77M voted for this. those who did not vote, voted for this as well, by not voting. only 1/3 of them voted against it

I don't see where I said americans
