This is great news. In a world where most democrats worry more about chasing the far-right, we need a counter-weight for this.
Early on I thought there was no chance he would win. Too young, too progressive, not white. I didn't really follow his campaign.
Now that he's won he's like a beacon of hope in these awful times. He's got charisma and he's super smart and quick to respond to criticisms. He's really one of a kind. It makes total sense he's running in NYC.
On the other hand, you've got Katie Wilson in Seattle who has the driest personality of any candidate I've come across. Maybe it works for Seattle.
This is exactly what establishment Democrats and AIPAC were afraid of. Not Mamdani himself, as mayor of NYC, but a normalization of more progressive candidates.
I love it. Be prepared for the massive media campaign though. If we thought the smear against Mamdani was bad, if he wins the general it's going to be a frenzy.
Hopefully this results in a continuation of the social awakening, and the illusion that mainstream media resembles anything close to actual journalism is completely shattered at last.
Love watching him talk to people on the street. He's got that Bill Clinton charisma where people feel like the only person in the room, feel important to him. Because like Clinton, he's actually listening and not calculating a response.
He's not talking for the camera. He doesn't use the interviewees words to push his agenda, doesn't shoehorn in talking points. He actually has plans to address a few specific issues, in specific ways.
Makes me want to stand up and cheer!
Which is great news! While not every one of them will win the first time, it will do at least these three things:
Bring campaigning focus back to connecting with people on the ground and asking about real issues that concern people.
At least one will win somewhere unexpectedly, where the incumbent(s) had put down their guard.
Brings progressivism and socialism back into the political conversation.
