Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Good thing these networks profits don't rely on public opinion or anything. It would be a shame if people made a point to go out of their way to shit on "skydance" (which does kinda sound like a name a simpleton came up with to explain changes in the weather) at every opportunity.

Between dissent that doesn't rely on corporate sponsorship and people not bothering to watch CBS anymore anyway (bc why would you? I don't even mean that as joke. Literally what is left at CBS?) it could make some impact. I guess we'll see.

Getting people to boycott all of the things formerly owned by paramount is tougher bc they own so much shit, but they've also been going downhill for a while.

Skydance: "You wouldn't steal a car."

Hacker voice: "You wouldn't help an authoritarian dictator censor the public."

Skydance: ....

Steal a car? No

Download a car? Hell yes

but they've (Paramount) also been going downhill for a while.

lots of long time Star Trek fans' eyes twitch

Indeed.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Star Trek is such a mixed bag. Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds are fantastic.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 3 points 8 months ago

Agreed, and actually I'm fine with some ideas not being everyone's favorite. As the Vulcan philosophy says, infinite diversity in infinite combinations (IDIC).

What I was mainly referring to was the VERY long standing attitude from Paramount to viciously come after anyone who does anything remotely resembling Star Trek assets. Non-profit fan based stuff included. If they aren't getting a cut, then you WILL NOT do it. Learned that in the 80s, wondering why programs made n BASIC were obviously modeled off of Star Trek stuff, but used other names for everything.

And yet again, we'll see if anyone with the wealth or authority to oppose this will even lift a finger.

And yet again, I'm predicting no, they won't.

Cowards and co-conspirators one and all.

And it's not like it matters anyway - even if someone did try to stand against them, the Trump regime would just keep appealing any decision against them until it got to the Supreme Court, and then those criminally corrupt and traitorous pieces of shit would give them what they wanted.

I want to see every journo programme lead with a

This broadcast has been edited for runtime length and content

And the show whatever the fuck the trumpcensor approves in this edited version. Instead of episode 1 and 2, call them 1** and 2**. Don't make new content for the parts censored; put up a CENSORED box.

If we have another election, and if the Republicans vacate the Whitehouse, and if the trumpcensor is fired, bring out the originals to be broadcast/available "in their original form and content" .

No, it's not gonna change the world, and the content may be stale by then. But it'll follow the letter of the agreement without sacrificing standards and integrity.

Well, they are already the home of Big Brother, so this is fitting.

Gomez further criticized the FCC for overstepping its authority in "intervening in employment matters reserved for other government entities with proper jurisdiction on these issues" by requiring Skydance commitments to not establish any DEI programs, which Carr derided as "invidious." But Gomez countered that "this agency is undermining legitimate efforts to combat discrimination and expand opportunity" by meddling in private companies' employment decisions.

That's Fascism!

You can argue that requiring equal opportunity programs were also government overreach, but even a cursory look at the history of those programs shows they were done to combat a deep history of racism combined with the statistics and figures proving discrepencies. Equal opportunity programs were publicly debated and approved to solve a problem. This is being done without review or evidence at the whim of the administration.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Lmao sad. I never watch CBS anyways unless it's sports. So that can just be on mute anyways.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 1 points 8 months ago

The bread and circus has been muted!

We won!

[–] shawn1122@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

In an open marketplace I'm afraid that is a competitive disadvantage Especially with a 1 in 3 approval rating.

Say one positive thing the FCC has ever done ever...go ahead...I'll wait.........

[–] memfree@piefed.social 8 points 8 months ago

They used to limit the number of stations/outlets anyone could own. That limit ensured a multitude of 'voices' could be heard. That went away under Clinton. Before that they'd also enforced the more questionable Fairness Doctrine, but that died under Reagan.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 months ago

The FCC in general, or this one that Mr Trump stacked with all kinds of cronies?
