Sturdy glassware with glass lids. The generic seals are easily replacable, and will be available for decades to come. They can be put in the microwave or freezer (without the seal), and obviously don't leech any microplastics or hormones into your food.

Produced in Germany since 1900.

Traditionally these are used for making jam, but the larger ones also make for good storage containers for cereal, pasta, flour and sugar etc

Thought this was an artshare community and was about to congratulate you on your ability to capture the light so effortlessly

I hand picked it from their website 😌

Traditionally these are used for making jam

Funnily enough I mostly saw them for preserving vegetables, mostly cucumbers. They're kind of making a comeback the last few years.

Any chance you know of any "official" info on safe usage of these types of jars? In the US, the national center for home food preservation has a lot of scientifically validated info for proper preservation in Mason jars (ph, processing times for water bath and pressure canning, etc.). I'm assuming there must be an equivalent source of info on the use of weck jars where they are more common.

Always preferred Mason/Ball to Weck because the Weck rubber rims can be finicky and little metal clips tend to go missing.

[–] zagaberoo@beehaw.org 4 points 2 months ago

The Ball two-piece-lid is pretty rad.

The one Weck container I have the rubber rim went bad pretty quickly on and the replacement doesn't fit quite right so it leaks if you shake it at all.

I'm gonna also side on the twist on 2 piece lid designs are better.

i thought they were broke...

in german there is a synonym for "to preserve", it's "einWECKen"

I Pesonally prefer the products of Bormioli Rocco over Weck, partly because they are cheaper, but also i prefer the mechanism. At least where i live you can buy these in every Supermarket, and the squared shape makes storing stuff in a drawer way easier.

I bought a lot of them on glass-shop.com some months ago. They are really great and not as thin as other glasses. However I am not so sure about the lid. I bough silicon lids like these, because I wanted a quick possibility to open them, but they suck. They are not tight at all, it's more like you lay them on the glass. I want those to be tight and safe against food moths. What do you think about the traditional lids like depicted in your photo? Are there better ones, that make it more comfortable to open the glasses?

Food moths… so teenagers. 🀣

I think "swing top" is what your looking for. Weck has them too I don't know if you can add them to your existing jars

These jars are really good, so much so that it is said in Polish that after putting a warm one in a jar and turning it, it has to β€œzaWECKować” πŸ˜„

That shit is weck

No way! TIL. I nad no idea the word "wek" comes from a brand name.

[–] Lembot_0004@discuss.online 3 points 2 months ago

Cat: wreck the weck!

[–] pseudo@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 months ago

I saw a lot of generic brand of this in the store. Do you find a adventage of buying the brand name ones?
