In-N-Out's billionaire owner, Lynsi Snyder, is done with California.

Speaking on the "Relatable" podcast released Friday, Snyder said she was moving to Tennessee as the cult burger chain plans its southeastern expansion and establishes a new headquarters in the suburbs outside Nashville.

"There's a lot of great things about California, but raising a family is not easy here. Doing business is not easy here," Snyder said.

“I face too many consequences for my bigotry, and it’s much more difficult to exploit laborers here. Therefore, I will go somewhere more friendly to fascist billionaire profiteers.”

I don't understand why people shun Chick-fil-A for being homophobic, but will happily jerk off to in-and-out all day long. They're the same. "Oh but they're both corporations so whatever." Yeah, but some corporations are worse than others. Stop being a hypocrite.

I think the controversy around In-N-Out Burger is far less well-known because they’re not a national chain and they didn’t generate over a decade of ill, Will through their very loud and very visible activism. In fact, I only found out about it recently myself, even though I’ve been aware of the brand for decades. A lot of their customers would probably stop going there if they knew. The problem is that they don’t know.

Of course, there are the hypocrites, although some are not as ill meaning as others. For example, I recently discovered that my favorite coffee brand. Pete is not quite so ethical as they claim in their business practices. But it took me a couple of weeks of continuing to buy their coffee before I could find a suitable alternative. Although… I am willing to take responsibility for that. I guess that’s the difference.

I've tried to educate people. Even other queer people don't care about in-and-out being a bigoted company. I don't get it.

OK, well, now that’s different.

Dammit those are the people I get my coffee from. Who'd you switch to, and why?

[–] floo@retrolemmy.com 2 points 4 days ago

I haven’t officially switched to anything yet, I’m still trying stuff out.

But the first brand I saw to try was Kicking Horse because they’re both actually ethical, but had some attractive-sounding options I wanted to try.

My favorite blend of Peet’s was Major Dickenson’s Blend, a dark roast that is… well I just love it. Trying to get to that same level of “I love this”, I am trying Kicking Horse’s Grizzly Claw dark roast and their Smart Ass medium roast.

Honestly, it’s just not hitting the mark with the dark roast, but the medium roast is actually pretty great. The dark roast is very good, don’t get me wrong, but the Major Dickinson‘s Blend from Peet’s is just so much better. Or, rather, I like it so much better. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to match it. I plan on trying some other sources before I settle on one (or a few), but I’m afraid that I’m not going to be able to replace it with something that I like as much. But I don’t mind that as much as I do mind the ethical concerns around coffee, and, in particular, where I source my coffee from.

It is just one of those products that is mired in exploitation of every possible kind, and I just cannot countenance being a part of that. So, I’ll sacrifice the most delicious coffee I’ve ever had (that I can buy myself and make it home) against people and countries coming to harm because I like a delicious dark brew.

The place where it grew from nothing into a multi-billion dollar concern? Huh. Imagine if it was easy there!

"We're going to take a mid fast food chain that pretty much only exists in california and take it someplace else in such a way as to make sure that we burned our bridges in the only state where people care"

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 16 points 4 days ago

Im sure its not because tennessee will bend backwards to give tax breaks to build a multibillion dollar facility and no income tax and lax labor regulations and only a $7.25 federal min wage.

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 14 points 4 days ago

"Oh, no.. We've only made fucking billions.."
