Everything is consumer responsibility. The producers are allowed to do whatever they want and if its not good thats the consumers fault. Also I love shining boots with my tongue

TIL actually owning and using the shit you buy is dumb because it's like making a bad choice in an election and Ubisoft bad.

As a patient gamer who usually spends no more than $10 on a game, i rely on these treat monkey rube gamers to pay full price so i can wait five years for the discount price on the GOTY edition and feed my own treat addiction. Will no one think of the gamers!!! /s

Yeeeeees, I also give games years before I buy them at heavily discounted rates! In fact recently it's not even been five years before they're 80% off! Heck yeah!

Boycotts can work for products where an alternative exists. That doesn't apply to videogames unfortunately, there's an alternative to your coffee brand, there is not an alternative to a specific franchise of a videogame. There might be genre alternatives but it's not the same thing.

The only videogame boycotting tactic that works is encouraging piracy, so people can still play the game but not contribute to the bad thing. Doesn't work with the subject matter of this though because it's about saving the lives of primarily online-only and liveservice games that disappear when no longer supported. These games don't have a piracy option to encourage boycott through that method.

So boycott tactics really do not apply here.

The actual problem with the initiative is that it's putting too much trust in neoliberal governments who are currently worshipping the genocidal settler state of Israel, freaking out about Russia, fearmongering about immigration, and who are in the process of gutting the welfare state to hit that 5% GDP NATO spending goal.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but how can I not be after the last 4 years?
