Yes, i would still use something like OBS but VLC can (speaking from experience)
It can also stream from the internet
I used to use it to watch Youtube when there was some performance issue doing it in the browser. It was the netbook days
Wow, I can't believe I almost forgot about netbooks
They were fun and frustrating in equal measure. Also some were so underpowered and had limited disk space (early SSDs on some of them) that at least few of the early netbooks came with Linux. Interesting times, nowadays (for a decade or something hah) tablets and "ultralight" laptops have replaced netbooks

DAUM potplayer is the absolute best
its for windows so not for me
but others might have fun with it as it seems to have a lot of options according to wikipedia

Who is using vlc when mpv exists?
i do, because i never heard of mpv and i will not learn it now (but maybe later when i have more time)
Its worth it to try, it's much faster than vlc and highly configurable.
I mean the no-gui all keybinds thing is obviously for a niche market, a lot of people won't like that
There's plenty of ways to add more functionality with user scripts, also lots of front ends to pick from.
Of you have a potato PC, of course, but if you don't, both are great players.
Yea if you have a potato pc then vlc is probably the better choice, mpv is built to perform on newer hardware. Although, I have never tested as I don't have a low/old spec PC laying around anymore.
