Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Amid a constantly changing reproductive landscape, one West Virginia prosecutor is warning people who have miscarriages in his state that they could get in trouble with the law.

Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Tom Truman says that although he personally wouldn’t prosecute someone for a miscarriage, he made the suggestion out of an abundance of caution after hearing from other prosecutors.

Truman even suggests people might want to let local law enforcement know if they’ve have a miscarriage. Several reproductive law experts say people around the country have, indeed, faced charges related to miscarriages — but they still wouldn’t recommend reaching out to law enforcement.

I am literally dumbfounded. What in the world is going on in the US? It's traumatizing enough to miscarry; then the justice system wants to put you in prison?

I've been reading a lot on pregnancy recently and from what I understand, the feasibility of pregnancy ultimately comes down to genetics and statistics (assuming you're doing what you can to maintain a healthy pregnancy). You could be in the 3rd trimester and your baby could strangle itself on the umbilical cord. What the fuck are you supposed to do then?

We've got an administration that is...

  • Pro life, but go to prison if you try and fail.
  • Pro health, but anti vax
  • Pro justice, but anti due process
  • Pro Innovation, but anti employment?

The list goes on, and on. I thought we were in the stupid timeline, but holy shit - this is well beyond that now

Actions speak louder than words. Repugnantcons aren’t “pro” any of those things, but they at least have the political wherewithal to claim they are in order to trick people into believing they’re populists and voting for them.

America is desperate for a change in the status quo, so much so we voted for Trump a second time when the democrats insisted on choosing another corporate robot without holding a primary election.

Trump only cares about himself and grifting to line his own pockets, and the incredibly sad part is that in some important ways that does make him the better choice because he isn’t 100% guaranteed to roll over and do what his donors tell him.

I didn't know until I learned the hard way that babies are called miracles because so very many pregnancies aren't viable and the babies die. It's not just common it's VERY COMMON. I sincerely hope nobody reading this ever has any reason to think I'm anything but full of shit. :(

Man it's weird just how much these guys hate women. I mean like what? Why?

For power. They don't like independent women. In fact they'd prefer us to be barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen where we belong.

My conspiracy theory is that when a species suppresses all apex predators, outmanoeuvres most lethal diseases, and suppresses wars and famine, the species automatically start changing and self-destruction code is triggered.

That code triggers extinction-class events like nuclear war, anti-vaccine movements to bring back disease, and anti-intellectualism that results in rollbacks to climate change suppression and reduces long-term survival. Which leads to mass die-offs, bringing the population back under control.

Honestly, it sounded silly at first, but it seems to be the only thing that makes logical sense when a fucking moron is demanding rollbacks to measles vaccines, HIV prevention, and cuts to the government agencies that control nukes and other exotic weaponry. While other countries start idiotic wars over literally nothing, throwing their economies away.

....Thank fucking God we destroyed our biological weapons program decades ago.

A lot of women are going to die trying to handle the miscarriage at home due to fear of prison.

That's the goal!

How a single woman could vote for these but jobs is incredible

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Well, some women are selfish and only care about themselves (that's not a dig against women, I'm a woman, every demographic has some selfish people) and therefore won't care about this if they believe it won't affect them

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Never thought I'd hope someone goes through a miscarriage, but I hope he finds himself suddenly not a father and also fighting for his wife's exoneration.
