Yes, as far as I know, it's a big deal for ADHD folks.
Isn't that a core symptom of autism that's shared by pretty much every autistic person?
At the very least, being unable to regulate emotions when under stress. Often with the stress threshold and sources being meaningfully different from neurotypicals.
But I think a lot of people miss this distinction, both coming and going. If you can't or haven't identified your stressors, it can feel random. If you are always exposed to your stressors, it can feel perpetual.
Yes, a very big yes
Always sucks when I get really angry/frustrated about something even though I know I shouldn't be. Like watching a dumb friend try to break a bottle with his forehead and not being able to stop him
That's a big part of BPD, and one I struggle with most.
I get that. What's living with BPD like?
It's like living on the edge your seat all the time. Everything gives me anxiety, especially dealing with people. I am never just a little sad, or just a little angry, whatever I am feeling in the moment is all encompassing and cranked up to 11. And since I am prone to meltdowns when stressed, frustrated, or feeling trapped I am always worried about that and try to avoid conflict as much as possible.
Thanks mate, I have BPD clients so I'm always trying to learn more so I can give them the support they need
Overwhelming emotion is the mind killer. I will let the overwhelming emotion pass over me and through me. And after it is gone silence will remain.
That's basically vipassana meditation. It's the only technique I've found.
I think everybody else just fakes it. A calm smile masking raging insanity
as Weird Al said; 'We're gonna crank up the volume, and yank off the knob'
I fall somewhere on the AuAHD side of things. For me two issues arise. It can take me a few minutes to hours to really feel something for complex emotions, then a day or two to let it pass. Some more basic emotions like irritation/overstimulation can be felt immediately, before I even get a chance to think about it.
I also can experience issues where a fixation becomes and emotional anchor and I have trouble processing other events emotionally. Sometimes it's kind of a coping mechanism
