RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

I'm going to an lgbt dropin tomorrow, I've never been before so I'm hoping it's good! If it's not I never have to go again

The usual chores (laundry, food shopping, some cleaning), reading, maybe watch a movie, go for walks both days. No special plans which =s how I like it.

[–] LadyButterfly@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Good call! What movie are you gonna watch?

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I'm thinking The Wild Robot!

[–] LadyButterfly@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Sounds good hope you have a good one

We have family visiting, so I’m the designated driver to take them around the city over the weekend. I suck as a tour guide since I don’t go out much and haven’t gone to a lot of places in the city myself.

Taking my daughter to a regional comic-con. I'm not sure what we'll do there, but it should be a good time.

[–] LadyButterfly@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Ooooh nice! What are you most looking forward to?

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Well I think she wants to get into cosplay at some point so will probably check that out. I mostly go for roleplaying stuff and she's mostly into anime stuff so we'll probably just enjoy wandering and maybe sit in for a panel. Probably buy some art.

She quickly gets overwhelmed in crowds so it may not last long but it'll just be good to hang out with her for a while.

Ooooh that'll be great a proper day out with your little girl and a lovely memory you'll always share! I love seeing good parents ❤️

Got paid, picking up a Smith & Wesson model 1854 - .44 magnum. This will be my second rifle purchase as I can no longer legally use my 22lr Kriss Vector, pretty hyped for this S&W.

Update:

If I lived in America I'd 100% get a gun, provided I could learn to shoot properly. I went shooting a few years ago and fucking loved it !

Check with your local laws! I’m Canadian and have a firearms license, our government reclassified roughly 140 families of firearms as prohibited hence why I can no longer use my Kriss Vector.

My coworkers took me to the range one day and I immediately went and got my license afterwards by completing the Canadian Firearms Safety Course, it’s such a fun hobby!

I'm uk I thought about it, the tldr is it's a PITA and there's not many shooting clubs I can get to.

[–] ohshit604@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Wow, UK laws in regard to acquiring your license are more wild than ours! I’m shocked to see you cannot own a Shotgun with a barrel shorter than 24 inches and, by the looks of it all rifles must be chambered in .22 Lr.

Not too sure about GB firearm related crime but hopefully one day regulations ease up on licensed owners over there!

[–] LadyButterfly@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Could be I doubt it though it's just not part of our culture. Funnily enough I was anti gun but then my NRA American friend explained away the myths and now I see it totally differently!

Same thing we do every weekend, decorating! This weekend its first floor corridor

[–] SteelCoffee@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

You’re decorating every weekend?? Sounds like fun, like real life Animal Crossing.

Pretty much so, doing whole works, fixing wall holes (waiting for them to fully dry to paint takes a week and a month to fully cure, late 1890s house), ceiling, skirting fireplace surround, walls with feature walls. Inside under stairs storage, and that's now done for 2 rooms so far with one more room and a corridor to go...

As i am just amateur and its for my own place, I do like to take my time and get it as good as I can. I am real bad at edging around coven which saddens me, but can only get better with practice.

Ordering parts for my NAS. Need the hard drives and pico PSU. Then studying for the Sec+ because I don’t have an internship.

It's the end of a fortnight's holiday for me, so I'm driving home tomorrow, followed by pizza and undemanding tv comedy when I get home to my wife. I have missed her a lot.

On Sunday there are some post-holiday logistics and chores to sort out, but we'll have lunch out and probably play Gloom in the evening: a card game that one of the friends with whom I am on holiday introduced me to. I ordered a set myself after the first game.

[–] Moonweedbaddegrasse@lemm.ee 6 points 17 hours ago

Same as every weekend - doing my damndest to avoid any activity whatsoever.
