Syril was sort of interesting in that he could possibly have turned rebel because of the events of Ghorman, he was developing a spine and undergoing some real character development but recognising Andor put a stop to that potential timeline and he simply didn't survive long enough to ever reflect on the events that came to pass. He did seem sincere in not having wanted to cause any of what happened, he looked to me like he quite liked Ghorman, he liked counting spiders.

Yeah that was confirmed by the actor and gilroy. Essentially he attacked cassian because thats the only thing that could have saved his shattering world at the moment.
