This is a fundamental flaw with current Christianity and most religions as a whole.
If an arbitrary third party absolves your sins then you don't feel an emotional need to own your wrongs.
The above assuming the person isn't a psychopath in the first place.
Absolution requires to ask for forgiveness; to ask for forgiveness requires the owning of our wrongs; to Owen our wrongs require reparation and trying at best of our possibility to stop repeating our wrongs.

The message of Jesus has been fucked with pretty much since his death, starting with Paul and the Council of Nicea all the way to today with the American (read: money worshipping) branches of Christianity/Catholicism. Love God more than you love anything else and love your neighbour, that was it, but Americans don't follow Jesus.
