This community is first and foremost a feminist community for men and masc people, but it is also a place to talk about men’s issues with a particular focus on intersectionality.

Rules

Everybody is welcome, but this is primarily a space for men and masc people

Non-masculine perspectives are incredibly important in making sure that the lived experiences of others are present in discussions on masculinity, but please remember that this is a space to discuss issues pertaining to men and masc individuals. Be kind, open-minded, and take care that you aren't talking over men expressing their own lived experiences.

Be productive

Be proactive in forming a productive discussion. Constructive criticism of our community is fine, but if you mainly criticize feminism or other people's efforts to solve gender issues, your post/comment will be removed.

Keep the following guidelines in mind when posting:

  • Build upon the OP
  • Discuss concepts rather than semantics
  • No low effort comments
  • No personal attacks

Assume good faith

Do not call other submitters' personal experiences into question.

No bigotry

Slurs, hate speech, and negative stereotyping towards marginalized groups will not be tolerated.

No brigading

Do not participate if you have been linked to this discussion from elsewhere. Similarly, links to elsewhere on the threadiverse must promote constructive discussion of men’s issues.

Back in my day, dudes would get crews and do stupid shit together.

It doesn't seem like young men do that anymore BC they lack the social skills to get along.

I doubt this will get fixed due to how society changed. People gonna be the new normal.

I'm at uni near the end of my degree and most people younger than me don't do anything. They don't party they don't go do shit. They don't go to the open mic they don't join the uni clubs. They dont do team sports. They don't go to the pub. Its honestly really depressing.

I'm generalising of course their are exceptions which is nice to see.

Tech broke old social structures and we can all pearl clutch about it but shit ain't going back.

With that being said, these people gonna need to figure something out for themselves or it will miserable life. They clearly seem to pick up that something is off

And they got Andrew Tate to fill all the knowledge gaps 🤡

Women didn't fail men

Men failed men.

The power imbalance has traditionally been enforced through violence.

Violent control over women is still all too prevalent, but as it slowly becomes a unacceptable in society, the losers who relied on it are discovering that they're reprehensible pieces of shit who deserve to be alone and lonely

Guys aren't lonely because they're misunderstood, they're lonely because they are dangerous to women, and they're actually dangerous to men too, just not obviously

This take on things is also very American. There are almost four billion guys in the world who are lucky enough not to have the stupid yank bullshit to endure

I know you didn't say this, but men aren't a monolith. Young men aren't responsible for their own upbringing or the society that they've co-inherited. They're only responsible for how they react to it.

Simplifications like "you've all failed yourselves" is reductionist and not helpful, even if it were to be technically correct.

IMO, it's all of our (societies') responsibility to create opportunities for young men to express their fears and frustrations in a non-judgemental and constructive environment.

That means accepting and acknowledging the reality of the situation and how it might be emotionally challenging for them to deal with, and offering active listening and empathetic advice where warranted.

This issue isn't unique to America, BTW. Look at SK and Japan for particularly advanced cases of this problem.

Yeah because it's still socially acceptable to control women with violence for most of those 4 billion guys.

If you are going to go on a deranged rant at least tie it to the topic at hand please

[–] muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee 10 points 17 hours ago

Women didn't fail men

Men failed men.

How about society failed men? You act like women are not participants in culture or upbringing.

This isn't a case where one gender bears the responsibility, and it's telling that your first reaction is to push blame away from women rather than genuinely confront an issue.

Violent control over women is still all too prevalent, but as it slowly becomes a unacceptable in society, the losers who relied on it are discovering that they're reprehensible pieces of shit who deserve to be alone and lonely

So the reason boys are lagging behind girls in primary school is because the six year old boys are reprehensible pieces of shit? I doubt you actually believe that.

Yeah! Most of us have other stupid bullshit to endure.

Though seriously, most don't deserve to be alone. Most were dealt a shit hand, with no positive examples of masculinity, and simply don't know better. Giving an alternative to the toxic patriarchical paradigm is essentially this community's mission.

You've doomed yourself by posting this lmao

TBH only one melt down and rest comment are correcting that stupidity.

I'm honestly very impressed with how reasonable people are being.
