It probably does it after its backed up via Google photos which can be set to WiFi only.
We'll have to wait for the first reviews of that feature but this seems to be the most likely way they're going to go about it.
That sucks, because then you won't be able to see if you need to re-shoot a video until after going home.
I might be missing something here but nothing prevents your phone from simply storing the unprocessed video locally and wait for a Wi-Fi connection to send it to Google's servers?
That way you would still be able to keep shooting videos, it's just that they won't be processed until you get home.
You totally can. I missed the part about the videos taking overnight to process, so there's apparently no reason to upload them immediately.
It would still suck for people with data caps at home, like rural Americans or people who just use cellular hotspot to serve as home internet
I've been confused about this feature. It doesn't seem to have a whole lotta info on how it works and if it is being uploaded to a server why can't the pixel 8 have it? On the other hand if it's processed on the device the 8 and 8 pro have the same chip which leads me to the same question.
Yup it definitely feels like Google is differentiating between the 8 and 8 pro mainly via software, putting the lenses aside.
