I would like to buy a Sony phone as I hear they are some of the best devices for LineageOS and are long-lasting. I am in the market for the best-value Sony phone that is supported by LineageOS officially.

My device would have to work with the Tracfone BYOP program (which I think should be just about any phone? correct me if I'm wrong).

Ideally this Sony phone would be:

  • As new as possible to ensure longevity
  • Have a minimum of 8 GB RAM
  • Have a minimum of 128 GB storage
  • Be at most US$300-400 (can be used in good condition off EBay or the like. No links needed, but just a tell of if the price range is possible for the device)
  • In the US$200 range
  • Have a headphone jack
  • Have a microSD slot

(Italics is ideal but not essential)

What phones would fit this criteria? Would love to have a discussion on if my desired criteria is even possible (I'm open to a reality check ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Does Sony still support unlock of bootloader at all?

You should browse XDA and telegram groups to find out one that has at least an unofficial port, then hope it will became official at some point...

Most unofficial ports works just fine. Heck I still use unofficial build for my phone even if official is available.

As far as I know, yes.

I have a Xperia 1 VI (XQ-EC72) and bootloader is unlockable.

For best results, don't go with the US/UK versions, go global.

Seems like it's not an issue: https://developer.sony.com/open-source/aosp-on-xperia-open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader Just have to get the key through Sony. Also there isn't a need for Unofficial ports if I were to get one of the devices listed here which are officially supported by LOS

Make sure to check for camera support. When I unlocked the bootloader from an old Xperia phone, camera performance was reduced a lot.

Pictures were never the same after that.
