Federated streaming service when?

I think that's just BitTorrent.

Popcorn Time was pretty close

The idea lives on. You can use Stremio with Torrentio.

The issue with Streamio is that it uses torrents but doesn’t seed. It just caches the content and then deletes it. If everyone used Streamio, nobody would be able to because there would be no seeds for anything.

It's the reason I stopped using Stremio but it's also the reason why it remains legal in some countries. Popcorn Time had an option to enable/disable seeding on the settings. I really wish Stremio had the same.

I want to keep my ratio above 10, so I use a combination of several other things to replace Stremio on Android TV. It's a lot less polished but I get a good feeling from seeding.

Doesn't Apple do the same thing as Prime video where you can add other subscriptions through their app? Seems like this is a mistake on Apple's part while testing this feature for Netflix.

They do, but apps can integrate their content with the TV app without subscriptions being controlled by Apple as well.

Ahh, so this must be on apple devices only.
