Has something changed regarding soulseek? I don't seem to get any results for searching. I tried previously searched terms and even those are returning blank. If there is better place to ask question/debug help regarding soulseek, let me know.

[EDIT Solved]: as suggested in comments : some artists are unsearchable

I tried yesterday and it was working. Is it not an issue with the client instead? Try Nicotine instead of the official Souseek client once.

Oh I'm using nicotine+ (never used official client)

Does TCP port 2234 need to be open? (I was using soulseek without any issues previously) so if port needs to be open then probably something on ISP side changed

[–] Blxter@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yes to reach others you need the port forwarded and some users have have access blocked if you are not also sharing.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

Sort of. If you're not port forwarding, you can only connect to those who are, if you are port forwarding you can connect to everyone who is and everyone who isn't (that is currently connected ofc) so you get a bigger pool to search through.

I'm sharing, can see it under uploads

I am also on Nicotine. I just tried downloading and it is working fine. My port 2234 is closed as per Soulseek official site [though users can download from me, I think].

Possibly unrelated but certain artists seem to be blacklisted on that platform for some reason

This was a few months back but when I searched for Luke Bryan, nothing came up. I had to get creative to find the song I wanted. Think it was called country girl. I haven't tried recently but it would be interesting to see if it's still like that

Term "Bryan" is blocked. Search "luke *ryan" instead.

Sometimes it's better to put something in your big book of sailor's secrets and not ask around too much.

Mum's the word.

13 years old forum post about this, with a reply from Nir Arbel, the founder:

Yeah, I can't go into too much detail, but we have to filter certain things.

[–] Blxter@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago

That's wild I had no idea actually

[–] rando@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Oh didn't know it's a thing, thanks

[–] hexagonwin@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago

iirc you also can't search michael jackson lol

[–] rando@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm dumb, it was absolutely this. (Actually previously searchable artist is also not searchable that's why I got so worked up). All good now

[–] hefty4871@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A tip I found that works is to search for a song in the album you're looking for. I like to use the most unique sounding title from the album. Then if you get a result, browse the user's collection and you'll likely find the rest of the album.

[–] rando@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Exactly what I did, also wild card in artist name works.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

[–] hexagonwin@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago
