Heading to Flaming Lips tonight, should be fun. I'm guessing they haven't installed aircon at festival hall...?

Edit. Feels like there's fans, but it's still really quite hot.

Edit. There seems to be no fans. I was mistaken.

Edit. My god, I'm drenched already.

Second set ... I'll ease off now 🙂

I was thinking about going but after being in an un airconned Royal Exhibition Building all day I don't think I can do another unairconned venue.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

I didn't even know they were playing 🫥

Out for a walk and brunch before the weather gets too hot. Now home for washing and relaxing.

Love this space on the internet and glad for all those who are or were part of it.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago

I know. 🥹 I feel so lucky and grateful to have all these wonderful people share their everyday lives.

[–] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I bought a portable air con from Appliances Online. Rare delivery fail - didn't get notified until the guys actually rocked up to deliver. First time this has happened to me.

Mega dramas hooking it up to the outside to vent (we all gotta vent from time to time). At the moment it's held in place by repurposed cardboard and the magic of duct tape, which will do until it rains. If it continues to do well over the next few days, then will invest in a proper window fitment.

Unit works well - has shrunk the temp in my bedroom from 30 plus to 23 over 1 hour. Methinks this was money well spent.

Will be keeping an eye on the power bill, but my last one was $45, so I think I can splurge a bit on personal comfort.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

Definitely worth shelling out to not boil in this horrid heat. You'd have spent so many decades the "hard way" with wet towels and ice cubes and what not. I'd only experienced that in my childhood overseas and that was enough for me.

Cooling is worth the cost if possible.

Portable air cons are a god send.

Played the Cure on Spotify and the autoplay has just been fantastic: Radiohead, Portishead, Mazzy Star, the Smiths and whole bunch others and now Billy Idol is singing me off to sleep.

Sweet Dreams, fam…

Absolutely love mazzy star. Been ages since I listened to them.

I was a metal head in high school until my high school girlfriend got me into Jeff Buckley and mazzy star.

[–] Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ah, well she did you a good deed. Aww, Jeff Buckley, such a tragedy. I wore out Grace to death and it took me forever to get into Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk, but oh…

They were such great time for music.

The Queen surveys her kingdom.

Fuck it. I'm gonna get up.

Cat medicalThe Melbaby got a day to decompress and then we went to the usual vet yesterday… her blood pressure kept climbing from stress so the next thing is a home visit. Hopefully that’s easier on her so we can get an accurate read and do something.

I’m told that her eyes seemed ok or at least the things told to me seem better than the emergency doctor presented them. And she’s eating. Avoiding obstacles. But I’m still noticing some vision problems. I had to move a shifted water bowl back into position in front of her and audibly tap the edge. I’m not seeing her usual quick curious glance.

HousingI’ve been told of another housing option but the organisation has a bad reputation. From my observations of the local place “run” by them it’s well deserved. And reviews mention them not addressing prolonged violent antisocial behaviour against other tenants - which is what I’m trying to avoid.

I don’t know that I trust them. I’m not trying to uproot my whole life only to end up in the same situation or worse.

TW suicideI’m struggling with how hard and unforgiving and never ending life feels and really struggling to function in a basic capacity. Wishing I had the guts to end it. Been feeling that way for a long time.

Melbcat is my rock and my anchor. I’m not going to be able to handle it when she passes especially having to make that decision. So I think that is going to be a really high risk time for me.

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh man, I don't know what to say except 🫂💙

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

so many hugs

and get a kitten. Melbcat will have someone to teach cat things to and to care for, it will be her cat legacy ❤️

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

I think she’d be really stressed with a new cat, and she has chronic cat flu that she could transmit.

It’s a shame. I did think about fostering kittens for her to play with but it’s a gamble and I’m actually not sure about my capabilities anymore or about bringing them into my situation.

[–] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I didn’t mean to, but I also bought a copy of War and Peace today.

I guess I know how I’m spending the heat

Pretty sure I asked before, but I forgot. What are you shooting with?

Rolled outta bed late and dehydrated but still managed to hoist myself out to do the needful:

⛽ Car filled up

🚘 Car given a long overdue clean and vac - tired of Monday's gunk

🌬️ Car tyres pumped although I still get the tyre pressure warning...

🥕 Bought fruit and veg at my old shops on the way back (almost drove back to my old place out of habit 💔)

🍲 That includes a shit tonne of vegan snags and easy cook shit at the Fancy Woollies which I miss DEARLY despite the shitty parking

🍦 Grabbed half price ice cream and cheap chips from the shops across the road

🧹 Vacuumed the joint

🚿 Had a shower with hot water coming out of the cold tap, as usual on hot days, because this place sucks that way

❄️ Aircon on

🍽️ About to have a late lunch

That's it. Staying PUT until Monday. I have plenty of food options. Window shades on my car windscreen because I'm not going anywhere. Need to buy a dash cover.

So many Severence theories to catch up on and then time for this week's The Pitt, then I'll need to tackle the dishes and get round to reading Juice tonight.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago

Had a whole wedge of cheese bang on it's best before date last night and no cheesemares so that's nice.

I'm thinking we go to a shopping centre this afternoon to escape the heat, and I've also been trying to pick up some of the cheap nick-nack shit Kmart has on clearance, but balancing where everything is in stock has been a headache

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago

Gutters done. Always like doing them down here because:

Worth the risk. Lovely up there. Doesn't look anything like that from ground level.

I wish I could do gaming on the PC sometimes but after sitting and staring at a monitor for 40+ hours at work i just can't do it.

I think that’s understandable if you’re feeling that way and able to make that link.

Means you need a break from the computer screen.

Time to chill and do other things if you ask me.

I've been to body pump, had a walk, done two loads of washing, and made a frittata. I will be on the couch until further notice.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago

I wanna go back to body pump, but have gotten so unfit that it scares me. But I also know how good it feels when it hits right!

Enjoy your couch time!

Another year, another 'Rod run' car show down here where people show off they're stupidly exxy hot rods. Some of them are absolutely bonkers. Sounds like they're hooning at the start of the bellarine highway but in reality they're probably the most careful drivers on the road heh. Definitely worth a look if you're into that sort of thing. I'm not but it's impressive how much coin and time they put in. I wonder how many of them have aircon cause tm will be brutal if they don't.

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

Lunch done. Coffee made. Washing done and drying now.

Time to relax!

I feel like I'm missing something fundamental in my life and I don't know what. Perhaps it's boredom and sense of fulfilment, because there is so much I can do with ice on my face for most of the day. I'm trying not to see the future as scary, but as something with hopefully some sort of excitement.

I'm really not far north of the city, closest to the Viewbank weather station. It's usually a couple of degrees warmer here but right now it's 11 degrees hotter than the CBD. It's 37C.

How??

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

it's 30 here in Carlton

It never ceases to amaze me how good a game Ghost of Tsushima is.

The landscaping and details of flowers and leaves is quite amazing at times.

Yesterday's episode of Severence was so good I watched it again which is super rare.

thoughtsThere is no way that could be Helly R down there. It has to be Helena, I'd be so annoyed if it wasn't. Irving knows and Dylan is twigging onto it too.

Dylan and Gretchen are going to be the actual throuple.

The actress playing Felicia had the best facial acting when she gave Irving a hug. I felt like I was being hugged myself.

Devon's strained "yis..." when Natalie asks her a question as she's about to leave the horrific Ricken ego-fest was one of the best lines from an already amazing actress who sounds so uncannily real in every line read.

The goat people are almost all homeless or drug addicts hence the awful skin and hair.

Cobel hurriedly left because she recognised the bodyguard from something and realised she wasn't going to leave that building alive - or at least not without her memories.

and now to wait for next Friday, sigh.
