These kind of anime shows are targeted at the folks who tend to be big anime fans. It's escapism, showing a world where even they can land the best girl in the school. It's not meant to be realistic.

Agreed but it's not impossible. My girl is waaaaaaay out of my league and a traditional "popular" type of woman.

He doesn't actually. Only her sister knows. He can't recognize her sister now

Ooh true, he just understands russian because of her.

Weird choice of anime for this, in this one the MC is actually super dependable, charismatic, helps anyone when asked, is popular and even used to be vice president of the student Council.

Yeah that relationship dynamic doesn't work.

The gamer side of the relationship sat around all day while I kept up the house and paid the bills and did things like go outside for fun.

Not trying to deny your reality, just saying that it's rather a problem with too little cooperation and compromise than a problem with divergent dynamics. This is speaking from personal experience.

I'm more of a homebody (who does their own housework, so there's that) and I actually seek out partners who are more outgoing and social precisely because I can compromise with that and said compromise leads to a relatively organic way of incorporating more social contexts in my life (organic as in not requiring me to go out of my way to get them). And, from what I've seen, the other side of the compromise - partaking in more shared activities while cloistered (in which I include housework, cooking, financial management alongside other recreational activities and such) - seems to be well received. But, of course, this implies possessing the willingness to cooperate and compromise (within reason), which are two of the most important requirements of a functional and healthy relationship.

In short, my experience is that the grand majority (say 90%) of my previous relationships have failed at a collaborative level, with the outliers being due to other major and unrelated factors (past traumas, familial troubles, poor timing, etc.).

It also helps that like 80+% of the time the guy is the one otaku who is relatively physically fit, reasonably grooms himself, and has at least a modicum of social skills (even though they temporarily have no friends before making 3 dozen)

Every once in a while though you get something like the first few volumes of watamote where the main character is genuinely a fairly reprehensible person who constantly makes things worse every time they try. Though to be fair even that ended up with tomoko somehow gaining a pseudo harem

Everyone likes their own things in people.

Not sure what my SO sees in me, but I definitely know what I see in them.

Passion trumps anything else. Makes one an entirely different person, it's like having a certain glow.

[–] rtxn@lemmy.world 51 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And if you lack passion, ionizing radiation will do much the same.

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Which is good news, because passion's cheaper to get!=)))

[–] don@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Slotkin didn’t pay a dime to receive an incredible amounts of radiation, though

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Dunno what to say, thinking about the financial requirements of going through the type of education which would help one participate in something like the Manhattan project, plus the financial requirements of sustaining said project at least until someone gets enough ionising radiation to make one glow, I'd still say it's cheaper to realise one has a passion for anime and gaming:))

[–] don@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

This is certainly a viewpoint, but my interpretation of what rtxn stated is that, if one lacks passion (for whatever reason, be it biological, psychological, or otherwise), should one gain access (by whatever means) to a sufficient amount of ionizing radiation, one would very probably achieve a very certain radiant glow.

I estimate their point was that such a glow could be achieved, and less so the cost to achieve it. This perhaps the financial expenditure to achieve said glow wasn’t immediately specified within your first post.

Hope that helps! :-)

Surely enough days of not showering will develop that radiation, no?
