I almost didn't recognize C-3PO without his red arm. I wish Ray was still alive because I want to know how Baylan's story ends and I don't think it'll be wrapped next episode.

I worry it won’t be. It may be relegated to a book.

I would love a book about him. It's just sad because Ray owns the fucking screen when he's on.

Yes, absolutely. He's one of my favorite things about this series. I would've loved to see where they could've taken him on screen.

That being said, with no further screen time possible I’d love an in depth comic run featuring him and whatever journey he’s on.

More likely we'll get a prequel comic or book, which I would be fine with too.

Might make Shin's season 2 plot be searching for Baylan and figuring out what happened to him.

[-] Electricorchestra@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

I also wonder why he let Shin go off there. Like what is his true plan?

Shin disappoints him because she desires power and he tried to teach her different.

Telling her to go with Thrawn will result in her getting the power she wants. Or she learns better and returns.

Part of me thinks that Baylan Skoll still harbors a lot of sentiment towards the force and its influence. You can see it in the way that he never seems to try and control the ways events unfold. He still (for the most part) seems content to allow events to play out as they will, or as the Force directs.

He claims that he no longer abides by the Jedi teachings, and claims that he no longer has any faith, but I’ve grown up religious, and even though I no longer believe or practice, it’s still difficult to completely extricate that sort of influence from my decision-making.

I imagine that it’d be more difficult to separate for Baylan Skoll, for whom the existence of the Force is irrefutable, even if he professes to no longer believe in it, as he continues to wield it.

He's taught her all she thinks she needs to know. She didn't seem too interested in whatever Baylan's searching for, and really just wanted concrete power she could just about reach. Baylan wants something else and would've been happy to have Shin by his side to face it. But he wanted to give her a choice to choose her own destiny.

Given Baylan's general attitude and goals, I kind of expected him to suggest he and Ahsoka both just pass by and attend to their own business. I don't think he needs to fight her to accomplish whatever he's doing. Though I suppose he might have wanted to buy time for Shin.

Yeah, he wanted Shin to go off and do her own thing, without Ahsoka interfering. But now that Ahsoka beat him, he's basically like "fair enough" and continuing with whatever it is he's looking for. That's how I see it.

There was a joyful goofiness to Ezra's fighting that hit me in the Rebels Nostalgia. I like that thus far he is not evil Ezra. Seeding that disbelief that Sidious is really dead...leave it to Filoni to have to go back to redeem the films lol

Highlights for me:

Threepio

Ezra fighting like a monk

[-] Anomalous_Llama@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I wish they leaned into his force fighting a bit more. Like a tame version of Mace Windu in the old clone wars show lol

[-] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Ah yes. It was kind of like that! I thought it was pretty cool, I wanted more.

[-] MimicJar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Monk fighting was great, although he seemed surprised by Shen giving him a little force push back.

[-] Anomalous_Llama@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Given he’s probably only fought raiders and troopers for the last decade a competent force user probably caught him a bit rusty

I just wish they leaned a bit harder into the force infused kung fu thing he had going on.

I really hoped that he would catch and return a few blaster bolts like Kylie Ren. That, or surround himself with a free free-floating blasters and let them fire as he continued to fight bare-handed.

What we got is still dope though. I loved how Shin’s saber beam flexed when he caught her blade to show the influence of the force push (catch?). I’m definitely watching that entire sequence again.

It was great seeing 3PO and watching Kung Fu

Thrawn as always is so insidious and it always makes the heroes feeling confused and somewhat unsatisfied with the victory.

We'll just have to see if they can make it to the Star Destroyer in time and somehow hitch a ride. Or will they have to wait for space whales in the end again. Although I doubt they'd want to visit anytime soon.

Or will they have to wait for space whales in the end again. Although I doubt they’d want to visit anytime soon.

They don't seem to visit that often anyway. Surely Thrawn and/or Ezra would've tried to hitch a ride back at some point in the past 11 years if more whales had shown up.

I thought it was an ok episode. Much like I think the show has been ok. The finale will certainly influence my final impression. I have a feeling that I will see the show similarly to how I saw Kenobi, which was a mixed bag of highs and lows that would have been better served by being a focused 2–3 hour film instead of a several hour season. Andor and peak Mandalorian this show is not.

[-] Yazer@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

Kind of a letdown for the penultimate episode. Hopefully the finale is big.

I've really enjoyed this series so far, but this episode didn't progress much

It got all the Jedi together and showed off Thrawn as a very capable villain with non-tradional imperial tactics. I really liked it.
