SA Police have issued a warning to cyclists using the bike path that runs along the Southern Expressway to watch out for obstacles after wire was strung across the path.

So cyclists on a cycle way.. Garroted ? What the duck?

So no mention of investigating the multiple attempted murders?

No, police only investigate when cyclists are keying cars parked in the bike lane.

I was thinking about what a nightmare that would be the other day while cycling and here someone is actually doing it. What a world we live in

Are there not cameras all along these expressways? In Brisbane I was pulled over on a motorway/expressway to report a hazard to whatever 13-xx number it was and the operator was able to locate me in seconds on camera. Should strip the license of any of these chucklefucks when they get caught. I should pull my bike out of storage and start cycling more now I think of it.

There probably are, although I'm not from SA and didn't pay any attention while I was there. But the bike path isn't directly next to the freeway for the whole length.

Lots of sections have gaps like this between the road and the bike path:

They probably have cameras on the road, but I find it unlikely they'd have cameras along more than 5% of the bike path, if even that.

And just curious, what do you think suspending their license would do, and why do you think that's the correct response? It said one of the wires was strung near a footbridge, so whoever's doing this might not even have a license. Could literally just be a group of idiot children that think this is funny. Not that that makes it any better, just confused because I don't see how attempted murder possibly not even facilitated (let alone commited) with a car justifies suspending a license?

Ahh fair enough, it was probably a motorway I was pulled over on.

More ironic punishment as the people I know irl who hate bike riders with fervour are large Ute driving bogans. So the mental image of them losing a license for fucking with people they view as “taking up the road” (despite bike paths) was too hard to pass up. Though you’re right, it’s insufficient for what could be a life endangering injury.

Edit: I also vaguely recall in America ( I think) people trapped a park/mountain bike path because they didn’t want people using the area like that (and left signs up) because it drew more people to the area than they wanted; and they were full grown adults.
