This is very complex. The patient wanted to change genders at 12 years old. The doctors want to take the patient at their word, but it's hard to know the motivations of a 12 year old. Now at 22 they say they were handling sexual assault trauma which was misdiagnosed as gendor dysphoria by their care providers.

From a doctor's perspective it's a lose lose situation. Going to get sued no matter what

@Amoxtli@thelemmy.club Hey, do you not want people to respond to your posts with comments? If that's the case I can just add you to the ignore list and you can post in peace. I take effort to write a thoughtful comment to your post to help engagement and you downvote me.

What's the deal?

People often push the idea that there are many who regret gender surgery, but in a 2023 article in jama surgery its shown there is good evidence that less that 1% of people who have gender affirming surgery express regret.

Meanwhile, firearms are the number one cause of children and teen deaths in America, but conservatives don't care about that, it's all about the less than one percent of the population that seek gender affirming care, and of that tiny group, and estimated less than 1 percent express regret.

If the well being and safety of children in america was a real priority, there'd be much more discourse around here about gun safety than trans people.
