Haven't bought a Ubisoft game for a while. It's a shame they don't realize that some of their users may go to prison, or travel for long periods, or join their country's armed forces, or just fall on hard times.

Plenty of reasons why they wouldn't log in. At least with Steam (for now, and hopefully for the future) I won't lose my (non-Unisoft) games for not logging in. Hell, in the early days of Steam, I once didn't log in for four years. I was amazed that my account was still there when I did finally return.

Or just... get tired of playing games for a year or so. I've done that.

I made my steam account when I brought the newly released half-life 2 then didn't log in again for over fifteen years, I had to find the original CD to get the product id but they let me back and I could play through half-life again - it's funny you don't really notice how good valve is as a company until you compare them to literally everyone else.

Seeing a game is Ubisoft makes it a total nonstarter. I refuse to have to have a separate account and be forced to log into it just to play a goddamn game.

I'm pretty sure they only do this if you have 0 games and haven't logged in for a very long time. If you own even 1 game, you're safe.

Yeah, if they remove your access to a paid game, they can open themselves to legal ramifications.

That would seem like something where the TOS can fuck you over, depending on where you live and the strength of consumer protections there.

I would not at all be surprised if Ubisoft would be allowed to completely delete accounts in several "first world" countries.

And of course, even if you're technically legally protected, getting that right in a court against ubisoft

Reminder that we don't own the games in our libraries. We license them for a one-time subscription fee. They can put whatever they want in the ToS and there's basically fuck-all you can say about it, it's a license, they own it, they can always revoke your access to their "service".

You will own nothing and be happy.

(Or you could turn to piracy and actually own games that can't be remotely nuked by the publisher if their robot is unhappy with the way you use your property, but bypassing licensing fees is illegal. Noooo don't do it. Please. Think of the poor billion dollar publishing companies.)

Well if I have the hankering for any Ubisoft game it will either be gamepass (where I know for certain I don't own the games), or the high seas if it isn't available there.
