Not in the EU fortunately.

[-] Mereo@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

It is available in Canada, unfortunately 😩.

[-] 3v1n0@feddit.it 2 points 1 year ago

Only in the app stores, once you grab the apk in android it works also in EU.

[-] Mereo@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

The majority of people will not look into doing that. A lot of people asked me if I had a Samsung or Apple charger. For them, Samsung did its own thing like Apple. They didn't know Samsung was Android

[-] 3v1n0@feddit.it 1 points 1 year ago

Sure just saying that to underline that per se the EU is not blocked.

I'm sure it will come to the EU eventually. Probably sooner rather than later.

[-] burrp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 1 year ago

Gross. Wouldn’t use it if they paid me.

[-] toastio@midwest.social 16 points 1 year ago

Sly way for the article to be titled. It's almost as if they're trying to mask Meta/Facebook being the owner of it.

[-] brandon@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Absolutely. They know that Facebook is uncool and unpopular. The Instagram branding still has some capital with the yutes.

Edit: I don't mean to say that The Verge is doing this intentionally (maybe, I don't know), but Meta certainly is.

Can’t stand Meta or Zuck, but I do hope this kills twitter

[-] xc2215x@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

It does begin now. Twitter will start to lose people.

[-] sserdarth@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah. Bring my 10 foot pole to beat it down with. I'm not touching that bare handed.

[-] eroc1990@lemmy.parastor.net 3 points 1 year ago

Only ten feet? You're bold.

watches from Mastodon as the cool kids from Twitter switch to being the cool kids on Threads, goes back to reading the always interesting/fascinating/weird federated timeline

[-] Marxine@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I hope my instance defederates even before they're live on activepub

[-] wildchandelure@midwest.social 4 points 1 year ago

On the page showing the app screenshots, it says it will soon be able to interact with mastadon. This is the moment.

[-] Boiglenoight@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I pay a small sum per month to the Mastodon admin that runs my instance. If it chooses to federate with Threads, I'll consider moving to another instance that doesn't. Facebook is a toxic company and shouldn't be treated any differently than a toxic Lemmy instance.

Such is the beauty of decentralization! 🎉

[-] kobra@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This is my favorite part of the fediverse, because someone on the opposite side could be very excited to finally interact with their more mainstream social circles. I dig it.

[-] klyde@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yep. I'm going to watch who federates and who doesn't. Not staying on there if they do.

So will we be able to add thread accounts to RSS feeds? After whatever API changes happened my RSS reader had to drop twitter support, and Nitter seems to be down too. I really liked all my local twitter account updates in one place, hoping to reproduce that asap.
