I've been eyeing those cheap Android Auto screens on Amazon to replace my aging Garmin on my KTM.

Anyone know if I can use other map software besides Google maps? I like Google maps for on road navigation but i do a lot of off pavement travel and would like the option of using Caltopo or OSM.

So no- you're not locked in to google maps, but not all apps necessarily have a frontend/GUI written for Android auto to use. I know for a fact you can use like waze for example, and I'm almost certain you'll find something with AA compatibility if you go looking, but I've never done that myself so I can't say for sure what else is out there.
